i geuss that it should be good and im kinda at a lost not really knowing the history playing bg2 has given me alot of insite but you know none of the fun. anyway i was wondering i mean it is prolly pretty cheap right now should i buy them and would i have fun with em?

I did that, but its HARD, game is just much different, such as when things are paused, spells, taking a week to get to friendly arms in.

But I want to do a bard from start to finish, as well as a ranger. Besides, you could end up with a better character at the end.(+ stat books, more spells, not sure if eq imports or not, sounds like it)

I was one of the fortunate ones who started with BG and progressed to ToSC, then onto SoA and finally to ToB, and as such I can truly appreciate the improvements shown over the course of the series. After playing BGII, however, I can safely say that it is VERY difficult to return to the original. It's not the level cap that bothers me, or the wilderness areas, but the NPC interactions, better pathfinding, faster walking speeds, and the other "little" things that so improved Shadows of Amn. If you've never played it before, though, I highly reccommend you give it a go, so as to appreciate how far your character has come from his humble roots. Plus, you get to:

1) See Gorion in the flesh
2) See Gorion get killed
3) Beat the crap out of Sarevok

...and if you thought Watcher's Keep was challenging, wait until you see Durlag's Tower! The walking speed is slower, but I loved exploring all those outdoor areas. I just used the <crtl>J cheat to get around the crappy path-finding in dungeons. I thought the storyline in BGI was better.

Yeah, and you can really get an appreciation for how tough kobold commandos truly are!

Also, one thing I will alway miss about BG is summoning those armies of skeletons --- Ha Ha Ha Ha One sixth level cleric can rule the world!!!!!!!

You should absolutely buy BG1 and ToSC! Just don't expect it do be exactly like BG2. It's not as impressive technically as it's a much older game. Also, you start from scratch (a mage will get one first level spell, a specialist two...), which is a huge difference. This said, BG1 is an extremely good game that will keep you occupied for hours and hours and hours. If you like playing with many different party combinations in order to explore different playing styles, BG1 is actually better than BG2 since it offers a larger selection of NPCs (all of which are adorable, BTW). For the love of God, make sure to pick up Quayle! And don't sell a +2 sword right away out of habit - it's a rarity in BG1...

Got it, definitely, it's such a special pleasure to start with a newbie 1st level PC (with 10 hp or so, no equipment, one or 2 spells ) and seeing him become a ToB demigod !

Don't miss TotSC for Werewolf island and above all Durlag's Tower, a very good dungeon.

Technically it's less impressive than BG2, but IMO difference is not that great.
Gameplay *is* different due to low level chars, mass of wilderness travels and no "inventory-pause" feature.

i was the unfortuante ones who played them all out of order, i started to play BGII in late feb, TOB when it came out, and i just finished up TOB on sunday.

I am also planning to get the first one (of course, i could always use some money )

but i would imagine it owuld be pretty cheap right now.


But that's kind've odd, i had sarevok on my side, happened to like the guy for the most part, yet i will soon kick thecrap out of him.


minsc-you do not seem like a "sarevok" to me, you are too humble, not enough RARGH! FEEL MY UNHOLY RAGE!

Baldurs Gate 1 is good, but not quite as good as BG2, as it take ages to get anywhere and there is no rest until fully healed option, which is very useful. Manually healing all of the characters after a big fight takes ages. However, it is quite fun to summon armies of monsters unlike the 5 you are allowed in BG2, and the sense of freedom with more locations is also quite good. I was (slightly) disappointed about the small number of locations in BG2. There are times when even Gnolls are scary, as well as Ankhegs.

Ah BG, the game where summoning monsters was useful because you got them in decent numbers. Nothing like flooding a Bassilisk with Gnolls. I even tried that att he end with Sarevok, and watched as about 3 fireballs took down about 50 creatures that I'd summoned

Definately play BG. About a month ago I went back, and decided to play the entire series through, as a sort of ToB special. I didn't do TotSC last time.

It's great to play through such an epic series (haven't made it to ToB yet) with the same character. Personally, I like to pick the party in BG that you start with in BG2, to give the game a better flow, and to make sure the attachment that you're supposed to show for those characters, actually exists.

BG is still a very good game. not as good as BG2, but still, well worth playing. Play the series right through, in order. It's a wonderful feeling

well scratch that my dad is the bigest moron in histoy he bought me the dvd drive version so now i have to return it and hope they have normal version sigh hes a freaking computer programer and he bought my machine he knows what it is

heh now i just bought the "real" bg1 so now im playin
