Anyone know how to close the Anvil gate? Can't get to the main tower and the caves that I have found just come out on the other side of the map. PLZ HELP!

Doesn't the path on the island with the tower on it spiral upward toward the tower?
On that map, I ignored the caves and simply ran across the lava, and scaled the steep hill (the scaling took a while to find a climbable slope)

Not sure...
Umm i dont specifically remember which one the anvil gate was but i do remember in one of them i had to drop down a hole in the cave. There was an xvilia or whatever below and then it led to the island that the tower is on. Anyway hope this helps!

I haven't actually completed this one as yet, but, it appears that you have to locate and enter the Nether Tunnels. I've been all over the island looking for another way to the main tower. I've entered two other towers and think that's all there is for now.
In the Nether Tunnels, I've had to drop through a hole in the floor to get to Oblivion Caves.

If I remember correctly, the caves are key, and going through those caves will bring you out to different locations on the pathway leading up to the main door to the tower. If memory serves, there are a couple of doors named "Nether Tunnels". Make sure you check all of them to see if they exit out onto a higher part of the path. I kept going through the same tunnels over and over again until I checked a door that I thought was part of the tunnel I had already been in. One of the exits to the tunnel brought me out onto a higher spot on the trail and I was able to continue to walk up and around the tower to the door. I used my map a lot on this one.

Yes, it seems that in several parts of this game, they've reverted to the old Adventure "you're in a maze of little tunnels, all alike" technique.

Yes, the caves. Enter the Nether Tunnels and keep going until you are out, then continue anti-clockwise along the path to the Red Gash Channels. When you exit that, continue anti-clockwise, then clockwise, to the door of the Citadel.
I found this the most difficult Citadel to get to. I was spitting fire by the time I got there!

And that is where my problem starts!
I've done the tunnels, exited the Red Gnash and tried to go counter-clockwise. What do you do, climb the rocks? Tried that, ended up in lava pool. Go clockwise a bit and try to get to where I can go Counter-clockwise again? The guide I have says to do it just like Fljotsdale said, but I just can't seem to get anywhere! Oh, for a levitate spell! Somebody, anybody PLEASE! :speech:

On OG's...
Well, it seems you have quite the pickel. Well what I found is that the Oblivion plane that you go into is "randomized" every time you enter it if you save the game before entering, and load the game multiple times (as in approach the portal, save game, enter portal, load save game or die, and repeat) {at least on the PC version}. That way everytime you enter the portal it changes, unless you enter the portal, leave go back, and save again. Once you've entered a portal, the "plane is set" (as in, the plane you see, is the plane you get until it's closed). The Anvil gate I entered (which was north-east of the city), and closed, didn't really have any series of caves. Instead, it plopped me in between two massive towers, in which each one "looked like" the main tower that you close the Oblivion plane in, but instead has two switches (one at the top of each), that you must flip in order to get to the *main* tower on an island next to the larger one that you start on. Flipping the switches extends "bridges" that connect *both* of the sub-towers to the main towers, and allows you to enter the main tower from each sub-tower. If any of you do this, I would strongly going *down* in the main tower, and exploring the small island first. There was a cave with some goodies inside (that's all it was, just a cave, with no other exit), and a couple mana and blood shrines on the outskirts as well. As far as the one you're in, the only thing I could suggest is LOTS of float potions/scrolls, if you can't get a levitate spell. Just as the guy said above, use the map ALOT! If you can't see the door, but you traveled close to it, the entrance should pop up on the map! Review it alot! It definitely helps me out!

I hope this helps SOMEone, anyway. Good luck out there!

Similar problems
Im having the same problem with the Anvil gate. Im not on a quest that requires me to go there, but just wanted to close it anyway. Is there a mission where you have to go to this gate, and therefore you cant get to the main (central) tower in this plain of oblivion until you undertake this mission? I have been wondering around here for hours, and have been through the caves a few times, but am still no closer to getting to the main tower. Any help would be greatly appreciated....

Similar problems
It took a while, but I managed to climb to the entrance of the central tower. It seems impossible, but if you persist and pick the right route you can make it up the slope...

There is a cave enterance to the right after you pass the first small tower that goes all the way up. sat around 3 hours before I noticed the cave door. it leads all the way up to the big tower.

Randomisation only happens if you have not spoken to the city ruler first. The gate you enter AFTER speaking to the city ruler, and being told that help cannot be sent to Bruma until the gate is closed, is NOT randomised, it is fixed.
And it works like I said. You don't climb rocks, you follow paths.

Ohhh...Sooorrrry all "exalted" one!

LoL, j/k man

Wasn't aware it was actually a quest item to close it. Not that far yet...just been going from city to city advancing level and buying houses! :/ But thanks, i'll keep that in the 'ol back pocket.

Heheh! Cheeky blighter!
I only know because I did it myself. I was doing the Blades Quest, and got bored talking to the city rulers first, so at Anvil I entered the Gate outside Anvil without speaking to the city ruler,
finally managed to close it, came out - and dammit! There was ANOTHER GATE popped up the second I exited.
I was puzzled. Then the penny dropped that maybe I should have consulted the city ruler FIRST.
But if you are just playing about without the Quest, all the gates will be randomised inside - though with some similarities to the Quest Gates.
