Dragon slaying??

Man, I did the Umar Hills quest and fought that shadow dragon. Was he easier or harder than the windspear Hills dragon? Because the shadow dragon was real easy. Just memorize cloudkill as many times as you can, and magic missile as many times as you can. Get him with cloudkill (out of his sight range) as many times as you can, and that'll take him to really low health. After that just magic missile him and hes gone. All i used was me (mage), Jan, and Aerie.

Yeah the A.I for Dragons in SoA isn't that good. In ToB it improves greatly with one dragon in particular.

Aye, dragons are a tad easy to deal with in SOA. As long as you're geared up to take em on, they fall. The bigger they are, the easier it is to place the boot of goodness on their arses!

Well, thry are not that easy if you don't use the cloudkill cheese tactic. Also, download KensaiRyu's Dargon AI fix. It might not be compatible with ToB, though. His fix basicly does this: If you cast an out of range cloudkill, the dragon will go hostile and walk around till they see someone. They will go hostile if a thief sets a trap in their line of sight. They will go hostile if the *priest* spell magic resistance is cast on them. And finally, they will actually analyze your party and attack the most dangerous; like a high level mage well back from the fight rather then a low level summoned orge.

To answer your question....is he harder.
If you use the same tactics as you used on the Shadow Dragon. No he is just as easy.
@Krimmy...Thanks for the spoiler warning

....seeing as this topic has nothing to do with ToB.

Gaxx, you talked about the cloudkill thing wrt killing dragons but in my test game it always seem to heal itself rather than die. tested the cloud kill thing out and the best i could get from cloudkill was "injured". I have to question why you think that is cheesy.I think cheesy would be if he just keeled over and died. But a little softeneing up doesn't seem cheesy. I have to admit I like going toe-to-toe with Firkrag, since Viconia seems to be immune to "Break wind" or whatever spell Firkrag uses..

its a wind buffewt and it is cheesey because it is a bug and you are a exploiting a bug which equals cheese bioware fixes this in tob

I'm sorry, I don't understand, why is it a bug?

@L, just so you know, Cloudkill is kind of considered the cheesy way to kill it--taking advantage of some slack programming. (We all know that if it were real, no dragon in its right mind would sit in the middle of a Cloudkill spell. It would run out madder than hell and flambe the nearest people.)
I think that's supposedly remedied in SoA, but I haven't restarted the game since getting the add-on.

Sure, all dragons are easy when you have already read some guide that recommends the use the cheesy tactics on them i.e. out-pf-sight cloudkill or setting a zilion traps in front of them while they're not hostile. When you play BG2 the first time and don't know those cheesy exploits Dragons are not that easy to kill, anyway,as other people already suggested, you could download KensaiRyu's Dragon AI fix,or wait till you get to ToB and meet a certain dragon who's name begins with D...

IMHO, I found all the new types of dragons rather easy to deal with, with the exception of reds and that damn Draconis... The others don't seem to use spells or dragon breath weapons as often, so bum rushing works better, though the wing buffet attack's still annoying.

The only TOB Dragon that I've faced so far has been Saladrax and I can say the I found him considerably harder to slay then any of the SOA Dragons. Usually when I battle Dragons I use my best melee character to distract the beast whilst my spellcasters carry out their Dragon slaying spells. An easy enough plan in SOA but in TOB?, well lets just say it took me a few reloads and good degree of profanity yelling and keyboard bashing.
IMO killing Dragons is the highlight of BG2 so why anyone would want to cheat themselves out of the satisfaction of doing it legitimately by using cheesy "fake talk", cloudkill and trapsetting tactics is beyond me

Not to mention casting Feeblemind at the thing over and over until it fails both magic resistance and save... Won't turn hostile, no matter how often you try.
Actually, 1 Spell Trigger with 3 x Lower Resist, followed by 1 Nature's Beauty = dead Dragon...

Fable-san, in my message I wrote the best I could get out of cloudkill was "injured", which to be flippant, is not "death". Why is getting a dragon to "injured" with cloudkill a bug? I'll repeat that I usually stand toe-to-toe with dragons but I tried the cloudkill thing and A) it didn't die, and B)it just re-healed itself. I assumed that since the dragon had re-healed itself the programmers had gotten round such an issue.

Heh heh heh Well I tried that once with the Shadow Dragon in the Elven City. My mage got it off before she got greased, AND IT ACTUALLY WORKED THE FIRST TIME OUTTA THE BOX!

Heh heh heh

You guys use spells to kill dragons? Weird. I always just hit 'em onna head until they died. Prot from Magic Energy, prot from whatever dam type they are, couple potions of healing and you're good to go, heh.

I prefer my dragon skewered with spears and 2 handed swords.
That faint of whiff of cloudkill completely ruins the taste.

1 spell trigger with 3 lower resistance follwoed by one Finger of Death = death Dragon And it will only take u 1 char to make the combo.

Does it really work against the in TOB like Draconis and Abizagail (spelling error) as well as Melissan?
Honestly, I usually rely on physical attacks and I would to find easier ways to defeat tough opponents like them rather than just relying on my sword.
