Sorry I'm not around much, but this problem is driving me crazy!

Frog :D inosaur::Whale:_________?
A. Mouse
B. Fish
C. Bird
D. Snake

Here is a conversation about it. They did not come up with an answer, but raised interesting points.

I know you guys can do it!

Whale:Fish, IMO.

I could argue my point, but I'm going to Walmart :D

Whale -> Fish seems the obvious answer to me... :o
But then sometimes the obvious answer is right.

Frogs and Dinosaurs are both Reptiles
Whales and Fish are both...Fish. :p

If it's a size thing, then it could be Mouse.

I think it's the sort of logic question that could have many different correct answers.

Whales are mammals.

I think it's bird.

Hmm, both dinosaurs and frogs lay eggs...as do snakes...but both mice and whales have live young. I'll go with Mouse.

Frogs and dinos lived on land, but were seperate categories (Amphibians and reptiles)

Whales and fish are swimming creatures, but are seperate categories ( Mammals and Flish )

I was thinking bone structure.

Birds have big wings like whales have those huge "arms", and birds have tiny feet like whales have tiny leg bones inside.

Frogs have smaller forelegs than back legs, like a lot of dinosaurs.

Chu, what about water dinosaurs?

I say bird ... there was a dinosaur that could make very loud noises like that of a frog. Whales sing - he he - so I say birds, it's a sound thing. Just to be different explanation vise.

Im going to say snake for the sole purpose of going against the flow, but I would put my money on mouse.

By the way, frogs are amphibians not reptiles.

Is it anything to do with Jurassic Park?

It is from an aptitude test used by a government agency, so it most likely has nothing to do with Jurassic Park.

I belive it's impossible to draw any parrallels on classification. Size is also out of the question since whales are generarly very large animals. (edit: compared to frogs)

Egg laying seems the most likely relation even though a few snakes actually have live young.

frogs are reptiles like dinosaurs
whales are mammals like mice

Do you have any more of those?

Frogs is classified as Amphibians as far as I know, Dinosaours as Sauropsida.

Amphibians and reptiles are often classified together (and I've always thought amphibians are a subset of reptiles, though I'm actually pretty sure that's untrue) and sauropsida are reptiles.

What I don't understand is why it is so hard to get a solid answer to this. It's an aptitude test. That means there should be a logical, definitive answer. It's anot an excercise in semantics. I'm confident that an answer will be found. I'm going to try to contact the agency that administers the test though to tell them it's a crappy question.

@Vicsun: I have no idea what you are talking about, but regarding biological taxonomy:

Reptiles, Amphibians, Osteichthyes (fish) and Mammals all belong to the same phylum, Chordata (vertebrates).

Thus, amphibians are not a subgroup of reptiles, they are both classes under the phylum vertebrates.

There are many questions like that...things like Circle is to Oval as Square is to _____ (Rectangle).
This one is one of the worst ones for a solid answer, though it is a good example of personal interpretation and where you'd get marks for backing up your answer.

As far as I know frogs and toads make up a group of amphibians called anurans. Not very an expert on biology, in truth.. I'm planning not to take the exam until september ! :o :p

I would put my money on
Frog : Dinosaur = Whale : Mouse

1st motivation: 1 = oviparous and 2 = mammiferous

1/1=2/2 ---> 1=1 ---> IDENTITY !!!

SOLUTION = True
my humble opinion..
If you need something concerning general chemistry, inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, physical chemistry, analytical chemistry, ...
please, just ask ! :D
Spoiler
well, go easy on me! i'm still a student!!

It's multiple choice though, and there is no one to explain the answer to. It's taken by computer offsite.
