I have completed all the (necessary) quests in Fargrove. I exited through the West gate and took the Arindale Road at the fork.

After several minutes I reach an Elven fort. They won't let me in, and the road to the North dead ends at a lake.

Clearly I have missed something--and would really appreciate some help.

You didn't miss anything. There's a small lake north of the elven fortress. Climb to the top of the tower there and listen to the spiritual guide.

Thank you. I guess I missed that on my previous attempt when I was attacked by TWO pretty tough opponents. This time there was only one and I eventually succeeded and am now in Arindale.
