A question about Paladins...

I know that the Paladin of Ilmater can multiclass into a Painbearer of Ilmater (cleric) without losing the opportunity to continue gaining levels as a Paladin, but what about the Paladin of Helm? Can the Paladin of Helm multiclass into a Watcher of Helm (cleric) and continue on as a Paladin later? I know the manuel says a Paladin of Helm can only multiclass into a Fighter without penalty, but I thought this might be an oversight and I was wondering if anybody tested this out. (If he can't is there a mod to fix this?) Thanks.
