Does anyone know how Drizzt hits people so much? Is there a potion he's imbibing? I know he gets himself hasted, but he is also always successfully getting a hit on my party with every strike of both his weapons...

well he IS like a level 15 ranger, with magical weaponry, armor, etc...
He may even be better now in BG 2.

I just finished killing him, he does seem incredibly powerful for a 15th lvl ranger, and his weapons really aren't that good. What i want to know is why do my characters constantly have to make save vs. death's when they fight him

read the books about Drizzt and you will find out why he is that hard to kill(BTW he is not hasted in the sense of using a potion, he has magical anklets in his feets that give him that speed)

Dual weilding rangers get ALOT of attacks, I played one the first time through and he was getting 7/2. Plus Drizzt's friends are pretty tough so they help beat you down some. I played a goody last time (didnt kill him), So I can't wait to meet up with him now that Im evil.

i actually just finished the dark elf trilogy and just started on the crystal shard. And drizzt is a great character, but the book makes him seem alot better than he and gweunhwyvar actually are, especially gweunhwyvar, korgan tooled that cat in like 3 to 4 hits easily.
PS what anklets?

Whilst Drizzt is a good guy (morally speaking) I can't stand him because MY character should be the focus of the game. I'm not going to kill the dude, but he can swiftly depart my storyline.
P.S. This was more of an irritant in BG1, where the character is lower level, but still enough with the Drizzt worship already!
Not implying anyone here worships Drizzt, talking about the general attitude the games take toward him.

In BG1 I ran into Drizzt all six times I played the game....Drizzt-0....Weasel+6
The worst that ever happen was I got struck by lighting.
In BG2 I have run into Drizzt four times...
Drizzt-0....Weasel+2
You should know what the worst is in this case.
I believe if they didn't won't him to die they would have made him invinsible like the mage that comes to get his equipment.

Remember, AC doesn't matter that much when you're that high level. You have so many plusses by then and such a low THAC0, that you hit most any AC most of the time. Such is Drizzt.
This is another reason I wish BG2 calculated AC past -10.

Drizzt's so called anklets are a sticking point that I never liked in Salvatore's novels. Supposedly they are bracers of speed, which would grant him extra attacks. However, Drizzt apparently is "so good" that the extra speed unbalanced his attacks. Therefore, he chose to wear them on his ankles so his feet move faster.
As far as making saves, I believe there was a write up of Drizzt (one of many) in which anyone fighting him has to save vs. death or be either instantly slain or lose an insane amount of hps (can't remember which...I read it a long time ago).

Krom; According to the novels, the bracers are supposed to be worn around the ankles. The former owner, a drow slain by Drizzt, had misunderstood the correct use of them.

I don't remember reading that. Granted, I read the novels a while back, but from my understanding, they were always meant to be bracers and worn around the rest. Seemed like one of those "Can I wear a ring of protection on my toe" arguement.

Haha! As a member of the Most Hated Order of Drizztly Fandom, I alone can answer all of your nagging questions!
For starters, in BG2 Drizzt isn't even a ranger... I forced him into my party, and had a look at his stats. He's a 16th level fighter, with grand mastery in scimitars and two-weapon fighting. Drizzt's bracers/anklets are Bracers of the Blinding Strike, which you can actually acquire in BG2 for your own characters. Drizzt didn't have them on him when I looked at his equipment, though. Regardless, he has 5 attacks per round.

BG2 does calculate AC past -10. To the best of my knowledge, the highest possible AC in BG2 is -16, which also happens to be Drizzt's AC.
I'm afraid I don't remember what Drizzt's THACO was, but it was in the negative teens. -14 seems to stick out in my mind. That was my archer's THACO, however, so I could be mistaken on that.
With regards to the constant saves vs. death, that's a special quirk of Drizzt's. He has a 10% (+/- 3% per level difference) chance of killing you outright with every blow. He also scores a critical hit if his attack roll exceeds the to-hit number by a margin of 5 or more. I'm not sure if that was implemented into BG2, though I would imagine it was, considering that he kills those vampires pretty quick.

There are several books, and a few trilogies, about Drizzt, all written by R.A. Salvatore. They include the Dark Elf Trilogy, the Icewind Dale Trilogy, The Legacy, Starless Night, and Siege of Darkness, to name a few.

Since you to forced him into your party to have a look, riddle me this: where does he keep said scimitars?
Yeah, this is a trick question. The idiot keeps one in his gauntlets slot...the other, well it seems the damn fool wears it on his head. For anyone considering killing Drizzt, this should pretty much push you over the edge

IIRC Drizzt has a pair of Boots of Speed, right?

Hell, I like that the focus departs from your character on occasion. Frankly, I'd like to see a much more large scale conflict in the game, delegating your character to more of a bit part. Like a Frodo almost. Still playing the game entirely from his viewpoint, of course, but having a much more important situation going on with much bigger players directly involved, like Drizzt or Elminster. The majority of BG and BG2 are pretty much personal quests....granted, you stop a war of sorts in both, but the focus is 100% you and your quest. If you weren't moving the story forward, it doesn't move. I'd like to see a war of the Rings type thing going on where your character is doing something vital, but there are bigger players...I'm doing a terrible job of expressing myself here, I'm sleepy as hell. Basically, what I'm getting at is that I like that there's another "good guy" around who could wipe the floor with you nine times out of ten. It puts the PC in perspective, almost.
