I'm a chaotic evil barbarian so when i found Drizzt i thought it was my duty to kill him, and I did. A couple playing hours later and I killed Bodhi. When I exited Bodhi's lair some mage named Malchor Harpell dimension door's in and tells me that he's a friend of Drizzts and he needs Drizzt's items back. I tell him to screw off but he takes the items from me anyway, and dimension door's out before I get a chance to kill him. Is there a way to avoid this?? If not is there a way to get the items back??

To the best of my knowledge, you can't get the items back without cheating, and there is no way to avoid this.

Have you tried using a Prot. from Magic scroll? It probably won't work, since I don't think the makers wanted you to keep the items.

You could also try giving the items to an NPC, kicking them out of the party, then having them meet you at the Copper Coronet. The mage's appearance may be tied to that particular map.

Nope that won't work either...I believe you can even give them up to M. Harpell and try to CLUAConsole them back and M. Harpell will come right back.

To try and fight him will end causing all kind of problems.

Hi !
I can certify you with exactitude that you
can not keep Drizzt's items without cheating.
But I can give you some ideas :
- just before Harper casts Mass Emprisonment,
turn into slayer and you'll become immune
to emprisonment; however, Malcor will
apper later and will follow you just every-
where, saying nothing but severely bugging the game; he's impossible to kill, even with the help of a cheat
- if you REAAAALY need his items, just edit
your savegame and change the serial of the
sword; but I'm bothering why you need it:
- you're EVIL, so you can't use it

I slew Drizzt, had one of my NPCs (AERIE), who I didn't want in my party anymore, and felt I should punish, pick up all of his items. I then disintegrated her, and everything he was carrying.

The mage was not pleased.

First Point :
Not CTRL-Q, but CTRL-Y

Second :
Yes, I've tried

Third :
No, it doesn't work

Pre-programmed stuff like that ticks me off a little bit. For another example, see the thread I started Can't Kill Those EVIL Thieves. It's cool if Drizzt (who I can't stand - but I DIDN'T KILL HIM) has some powerful friends. BUT, if the guy is going to approach you it should all be run by the rules and you should get a crack at beatin' him off. Some things are necessary for game balance - but this SURE ain't one of them.

Oh, and the disintegration thing is HILARIOUS! Good thinking!

I made an account just for this post.

Fun fact, he can be killed legitimately.

I'm a cleric/mage, attempting to solo the game.

Before you hit the surface, cast shield of the archons (or a like spell, I imagine spell deflection would work just fine). Now you can't be imprisoned.

I used limited wish to cast 'Shapechange'. Again, I imagine the root spell working just fine.

Turned myself into a mind flayer.

Auto attacked until his intelligence reached zero.

Bam, dead.

Unfortunately, I could not loot the equipment he took from me, but I still have Defender at least, even though I can't use it. It shall be a trophy in my bag 'o holding.

Happy hunting.

---Edit

I'm ditching my trophies, apparently Harpell is a bit tenacious even for death. Had to kill him again, and I don't want him following me the rest of the game.

Shame.

Ohh I had fun with master Harpell..
I was soloing a fighter/mage/thief with ambigious ethics, a true child of destruction. I have no truck with charlatans, and burst master Do'urdern and his Campanions like the bloody meatbags they were. I took their equipment to pawn and reveal their shame, and their puppet master Harpell intervened. Every time he appeared I dropped their equipment before he could speak, so they were not confiscated and promptly picked them up again afterwards. The third time he cast mass imprisonment, but I fled with my boots of speed out of the graveyard. He followed me using his magics to a number of landmarks around Amn, but I was away again before the spell could catch. It was difficult, and took a few tries, but eventually his spell failed, turning on the caster and leaving him frozen in time somewhere near trademeet. Deep and long was my mirth at his predicament, and I used his frozen form to test every agony in my growing repertoire of destruction. Occasionally I would leave him in the friendly company of a Greater Fiend, or invite the townsfolk out to shower him in filth. When my sword arm grew slack, I would think of events the way he would have it; him in his high tower in the company of a succubus while I shivered in a rocky tomb. I would cut him a little harder with my twin blades then, backstabbing in a greater whirlwind while in Tenser's transformation.

And after all of this...did it ever occur to you, that maybe you should've just left Drizzt alone? ;)
