No Contest Party

With my first party having now finished IWD II, I decide to try an experiment just for fun. No real challenge just strictly for observation purposes (and maybe a few good laughs). I took my exported characters from my original party and started them out in a normal game.
My reason was that I never got to see many of the kick butt high level spells (and some magic items) do all that they are capable of. By the time you get most of these great spells/items it is later in the game and many of the opponents avoid the worst effects (or have great saving throws/magic resistance to avoid them entirely). I just wanted to see HOW devastating some of them truly are. Like “Holy Word”, it can kill low level bad guys but the usual I saw was stunning for two rounds (not complaining as it has saved my bacon), but none the less. Circle of Death a 6th level mage spell, a mage has to reach 11th level to use it. The opposition is getting pretty tough by then. I found myself opting to take area of effect spells where the save only halves damage, as many spells are totally negated by save and it seemed all too common that my enemies did so. The game will not be a challenge obviously, just fun to watch the sheer destruction. I decided to call this experiment the “No Contest” party.
So far I am astounded by some of the spells. In one short session (about 2-3 hrs) I took the party through the Goblin warrens and they are ready to finish off the fortress. Under the Targos warehouse in the tunnels I sent my cleric (17th level cleric of Lathander) alone through the tunnels getting all the goblins to chase him. He stopped and they swarmed around him. They couldn’t hit him so I waited until they had all closed in and then, Holy Word! Holy COW, 40 or 50 instantly dead goblins!! They just flopped over. BTW, I noticed that the computer must have maxed the number of goblins due to my party’s level as I’ve only seen about 18 – 20 goblins down there before. Circle of Death looks pretty cool too as it spun around my mage just sucking the life out of orc warriors in the goblin warrens. Time for the party to rest and relearn spells, will try Disintegrate next for my mage (he is 6th fighter/11th mage).
