Thats up to you...
Sometimes I work just for the gameplay and then is good to not lvl up very quickly or very slow. Bu sometimes I just need to ugrade my attributes, and then is lvling quickly important.
One will not do much importance, I ve mercantile as a major wich is lvling up very slow, (I've over 300.000 gold and lvl 32) but the other skills are enough raise youe lvl.

I think it's a perfect idea. that's what I did, and now i'm a master of blade, 85 block, 90 heavy armour. 100 strength and endurance. I finished almost every mission, and I'm only at level 9

! The problem is that I really want to fight with minutaurs, or other creatures that I don't have yet..
Think about it, and do what you really want to do..

I put Blunt as a major skill. Usualy i'm fighting with swords. But when i want to level up, I'm taking out a mace, and level up quickly.

Choose what you'll like the most. If you take the mage you'll be very powerful in high levels. If you don't like to fight face to face, then archer will be good (and he's fast, too). Being thief is never boring, because it's fun to kill while sneaking, or to steal the palace keys from the guard

. Every class has its own advantages/disadvantages.
After you will choose, put your strong skills in the minor. For example, if you'll be thief, then put the sneak and security in the minor, and soon you will be expert in these skills without leveling up. If you want to level up, but not fast, then put one if your strong skills in the major (like light armour).

Spoiler warning
Highlight if you want to...
I'm a thief/ fighter with good magic skills.
Yes lvling up too quickly can be boring after a time. Because, you miss the moderate enemies. I've two skills a a major wich are not lvling up very fast. These are;
mercantile and hvy armor.
I used Heavy armor only for two things.
1- Raise my endurtance quickly to 90.
2- While Using only the shield as heavy armor, got a good armor rating (less taken damage)
Mercantile is improving very slow. You can not raise it so easy as the other skills(may be the toughest).
Use such two skills wich are not lvling too quick. But one of them should not be a too hard rising skill.
Also choose at least one quick rising skill, such as sneak - illusion - mysticism(Some player does not offer sneak as a major but I do).
First lvl up quickly and raise your MUST HIGH stats (such as endurtance - intelligence - strength)... Then slow down a bit until you get bored.
THE MOST IMPORTANT: As you know, you raise only three atr. at a time. So work on everly lvl to increase your skills by 10 lvls to their related attribute to gain max (+5) atr increase.
