Total Magicka

Well I am really just wondering where I went wrong... My character's total magicka is only 350 and the intelligence is maxed out. It's birthsign is the atronach, so I thaught it would have decent total magicka. I know I could increase it with enchanted items (or spells), but I'd rather use my armour to give absorb spell to regenerate my magicka faster.
Again, I'm really just wondering about posible things I could have done that affected the total magicka, because there are spells available in stores that require much higher total magicka level.

Only 350? I tend to play thief / assassin type characters so anything over 200 impresses me. Aaaanyway, if your alchemy is decent I think you can create potions that temporarily increase magicka (so you can keep your absorbing armor & items). Also, the higher you go in a particular school of magic, the less magicka it takes to cast spells in that school, so a Destruction spell that would require 500 magicka for a Novice of Destruction to cast will require a lot less for an Expert of Destruction.

more questions...
a Destruction spell that would require 500 magicka for a Novice of Destruction to cast will require a lot less for an Expert of Destruction.
Wow I didn't know that.
Thanks
Do you know which ingredients would be best to create a potion to fortify magicka? I have 100 alchemy so I can make potions out of one ingredient.. It's better to do that than taking two ingredients right?
One more question... Is it more worth the grand soul gems to make a full set of spell absorb, fortify magicka, or a mixture of both. My character is a dark elf battlemage atronach

what race are you playing as? some races have higher magika, for instance a high elf has more than a orc would.

Yeah, I knew that certain races had higher magicka... But which one has the highest?
This character is a level 29 Dark Elf Battlemage, with the Atronach as it's birthsign.
Anyway, I guess my main question is answered, I was just being stupid

Not a master of alchemy, so I don't know if a potion made using two ingredients is more effective than just one; you'll have to try it and see. This isn't a comprehensive list, but here are the things in my inventory that will Fortify Magicka:
Columbine Root Pulp
Ectoplasm
Ginkgo Leaf
Ginseng
Painted Troll Fat
Void Salts
Water Hyacinth Nectar

My character is a master of alchemy and I ran in to the same problems. I tried it both ways and have found that there is no difference in overall potion effectiveness if you use two or three ingredients as opposed to one ingredient. My character is a Breton with the Atronach birthsign and a ring that fortifies magicka by 25. That comes to a total of 225 extra magicka (50 for Breton, 150 for Atronach, and then the ring). I am at level 33 and my magicka total is 423. Even though this is a great total, my Finger of the Mountain spell requires almost 800 magicka to cast. I am hoping that it will go down a bit as my destruction skill increases.
I read another thread on this forum discussing how the health increase per level is not necessarily 10% of your endurance. It's called "What you think you know about health is wrong". I am hoping that this formula is also applicable to boosting your intelligence and how it affects your overall magicka. I plan on testing it out with my next character, since my current character's intelligence is already at 100.

Not stupid.
You just didn't know. Breton and High Elf have most Magica, and you need to have Magica (NOT Stealth or Combat) as your defining base to get the most of Magica.
You can add to your maximum magica by wearing items that give you extra magica, too.

I'm lvl 36 and have only 186 magicka... And I have two master, 3 expert and one journeyman skill...
I can't imagine how would it be with that kind of mana power...
