Increasing Restoration skill (pos spoiler)

I would like to know the best way to increase your restoration skill, casting healing spells just don't seem to increase my restoration level fast enough while casting summon skeleton would increase my conjurationskill very fast. So how can you increase restoration without using the help of a trainer?

I found Restoration very difficult to raise, despite having magic as a focus. Try making an extremely inexpensive Restoration spell, and cast it endlessly--that's my best suggestion.

I tried that with the healing spell you start out with (currently I have enough willpower to keep casting that spell without losing Magicka in a hurry) but I had hoped trying "higher level" spells would increase it faster. Using the low magicka cost spell it still takes ages increasing it, will spells like cure poison or cure disease increase it faster? I haven't tried it yet but if anyone found a more effective method instead of going to a trainer I'd love to know :P

Training always works, and we have a database on master trainers and all.

Up to you...

Training works but I want to try and avoid going to a trainer not only will it cost money I need for my new house, it will take the fun out of getting there myself, I just want to know what kind of restoration spell to cast in order to increase the fastest.

Not sure about Cure Disease/Poison spells, but any Restore Health counts the same, no matter how weak or strong it is (so your skill will increase faster if you cast a weak Restore Health a bunch of times than casting one strong spell).

  1. There is no difference if you use high cost spell or low cost spell to train. They both add thesame amount of experiance to skill.
  2. Restoration does not go up with heal spell if you are at full health.
So i did like this:
I created custom spell with effect of 3 damage (e.g. fire, frost ...) and 3 heal on self (If you add the heal effect last then this spell will count as restoration spell). This spell takes wery little of mana so you can cast it almoust endlesly (or endlesly if you have higher willpower). Then i putt somthing heavy on casting keybord key (if the key is presed then your character will continue to cast spels) and leave game for some time.
Just remember that after levels 25, 50 and 75 you will have to press ok of message that you are now rised rank of resstoration.

Rising to Master level takes a looooooooooooooong time.

P.S. Don't use this method if restoration is your primary skill because you will be leveling to fast.

Use Restoration Buffing Spells Rountinely

I've had pretty good luck with using low increment healing spells so I have to cast a lot of them to get my health back up and I cast a full compliment of buff spells before combat as a matter of routine. You can cast the smaller ones to improve strength, agility, willpower, speed, endurance and just cycle thru them as they wear off. It is one of the harder skills to increase regardless and it may be worth a bit of training, especially to get to level 50 so you can cast major buffs and cure disease spells.

I have a nord with restoration skill as one of my majors (others are mostly combat based), using weak healing spell quite often and I level fast enough, think I now have like 20 or 25 in restoration and that at level 4 ;) But darn since I have only 60 or so in magicka that spell drains quite a chunk :p

Restoration is indeed very slow and the only thing I can recommend is to whip out your lowest mana cost restoration spell and cast it continously while moving around, unless in sneak mode of course.

Raising it during early skill levels is still rather easy though. Also, perhaps its on par with weapon skills, blocking and other combat related skills which might make a combat/resto build more natural.
However, compared to conjuration (which I find to go up at an insane rate) it's very very slow. At skill levels 10-15 in conjuration it takes 2-3 Bound Dagger to increase one level while Minor Heal Self probably takes around 20 casts. That's roughly a (8-10):1 ratio. While other magic schools are slower than conjuration the ratio is probably around (4-5):1 when comparing illusion, mysticism and alteration with restoration.

Edit: Btw, does anyone know if skill improvement is based on your normal skill level or your current skill level? In other words, would it help by enchanting skill decreasing armor?
