Your Matierial Goals

So, we've talked about emotional goals and all that, but what do you want to have, or do before you Bite the Dust?

Me, I've got a few

1) Get My Pro Stock drag racing license, and make a 200 Mile an hour pass. (Hopefully my 18th birthday)

2) Fly in a fighter jet

3) Own an Italian Suit

4) Pay for a Jaguar in cash (Might be an uphill battle for that one. :p )

5) Build my own car

And something else I'll mention later.

I don't know that all of these qualify as material goals, as such, but here goes :D

* finally figure out what it is I want to be "when I grow up" (has some material associations)

* pay off all debts

* a sailboat

* A well stocked wine cellar

* a brand, spanking new, super fast computer

* travel around the world, and really see it (given that at least some cash is needed here, that qualifies :p )

*music, books....

*black leather jacket (the kind with the mandarin collar, and belt thingy around the hips)

Can't think of much else at the moment, maybe more will come to me.
2) Fly in a fighter jet

3) Own an Italian Suit
I'll second those.

*Build a chopper myself with mostly hand tools and maybe some rare metals
*Build my own micro-brewery
*Build myself a "hydro-farm"
-Vineyard among other plants
*Get another civic and absolutely pimp it out
*Make myself an arms and swords armory/blacksmith shop
*Set up my own personal server with a huge amount of HD space and bandwith

@ Lestat you may want to read up on stem cell research, some very promising results.

I would like to have my own pool, so I wouldn't have to drive to swim.

Spend a year abroad when I turn forty. Just pack up, head for Europe, and start world hopping from there.

I want at least a Masters degree in history, and to be able to teach somewhere.

Own a computer that will run every game going at the time I finish building it. This will last me at least three months I hope. :D

A good home for me and my family is enough for me. Anything else is superficial and unnecessary. But let's see if I can add one or two things to the list...

*a new computer every few years, since they become obsolete after two months
*one decent car with good mileage, and one van (families need vans)
*a pool
*at least three TVs
*a library (one room with walls covered with bookcases, and there will be books, CDs, and DVDs stored there, plus one of the TVs will be in here)
*a japanese sand garden
*a ton of books (can't have a library without a lot of books)
*two dogs (Irish Setters, preferably)
*a fully-stocked bar (screw wine cellars; screw wine) for parties and my own personal inebriation
*a superlative stereo system
*a massive statue erected in my honor

Um, that's all for now, but I'll think of more things later. But as you can see, it's quite a short list. :D

Well, let's see here...

* fully matching, new Scuba gear
* revolving-debt free (not counting mortgage, student loans)
* debt free (including mortgage and student loans)
* get Scuba certifications for Nitrox and Deep diving
* travel
@ Lestat you may want to read up on stem cell research"]

Stem cells may not provide the most promising treatment possibility for MS. It's still a very long way to go. There are however some other promising strategies around...I think Lestat will have his wish fulfilled within a few years now, but maybe that is still too late....

If Lestat's wish count as material, mine do as well:

- A cure for every destructive disease or disorder, and globally available too.

For myself personally, I'd wish:

- A selective and highly specific radioligand for each of the exististing neuroreceptors in the human brain plus a detector system that can go around the Heisenberg bloody uncertainty principle! :D

 I can imagine that not everyone understood that :D

Anyways, I have more:

* Learn how to play the guitar better than Steve Vai
* Learn how to draw better than Masamune Shirow

*nods* Totally, I completely understand where you're coming from and what all of those words mean.

Me? Not including the usual 'fall in love, have kids (maybe), etc'...

*I want to travel alot, mainly western Europe to start

*I would positively love to write some sort of book someday, though I have no idea what on (not one of those trashy thriller or romance or horror novels, though). A published essay, something, anything would be incredible. Unfortunately I'm hugely insecure with everything I write. I've tried before, even just to keep a journal, but I always end up tearing up everything. It's frustrating. :(

*I want to buy quaint piece of property somewhere overseas in the beautiful countryside, even if it's impractical, where I could vacation to at a whim using the many frequent-flyer miles I'll sure accumulate from my world travelling ;) . Ireland is the first place to leap to mind, but any of the other British Isles or France/Italy/Spain would be just fine.

*I'm content with not owning a house for awhile (unless I have enough kids that I need the space) because I've always been terribly fond of cities and would be content with an apartment or one of those condo-type places for much of my life, the first decade or so of my adulthood maybe . That place would ideally include cable at least TV with HBO and Fox Soccer Channel, the usual kitchen/bathroom/bedroom, etc. I can get furnishings any old place, I've been collecting bits of art and such (photography, music/movie/sports memorabilia, pop art, reprint paintings, antiques nobody wants etc.) since I was young in the hopes that I'd have a place to put them someday. I know this sounds like I'm going to own Redd Fox's place from Sanford and Son, but really many are quite tasteful and I understand decorating to an extent(my mom's been giving me pointers for years, she's a freak about that stuff).

*A job that pays well enough that I could afford such a place in the city.

*A dog, or pet of some sort. I've always been a dog person but they can be a handful and I'd be content with a turtle/tortoise, bird or hampster/guinea pig/rabbit to start until I'm ready to be a proper owner.

*A simple corner/wall with enough shelves that can hold my extensive used book/cd/DVD collection. Nothing fancy.

*I'd love to own a really cool personal bar someday, but just something small or at least enough dough to stock the refrigerator/cabinets.

*A new computer every two-three years: nothing too expensive, but just so I can operate.

*A high-speed internet connection. This is important, as I positively loathe dial-up... It's one of my indulgences.

*Enough spare time (retirement?) that I could help people. Mission trips with a church (they went to Prague to fix a church this past year... I want to do that), Habitat for Humanity stuff, kids in Africa. I don't know, but if my life ever falls to shreds (in my spoiled, consumerist eyes) I've had enough experience with community service projects and such that I know absolutely I could carve out a niche helping others.

Not much else, my tastes are really pretty simple and I could easily do without alot of the stuff I have right now. I just need my books and some friends and you won't see me complaining too much. Unless the internet's slow.

Anyways, those are just some of my hopes. I know I sound awfully sure of myself on some points and am aware some feelings may change, but I'll wait until they do to give you an update. ;)

Good luck with that, but I've always been a Joe Satriani fan myself at least among the guitar 'virtuosos'.
