Playing again (again)...

I've just discovered the Amber and Auren mods over at Gibberlings 3 and have decided they are as good a reason as to play BG2 again.

Typically, however, I am sat here staring at the character creation screen (well, metaphorically anyway) wondering what class to play. Given how often I've played, there are very few classes I haven't tried and two that come to mind are cleric (I thought a dual class fighter dualling flails?) or perhaps a wild mage. I want to avoid a purely "hack and slash" class- something with a little more thought.

Any thoughts on clerics and wild mages would be appreciated, as would any other thoughts for that matter, druids for example- how do they play?

The wild mage is really entertaining if your the sort of player who doesn't mind reloading when things go bad. I'd recommend doing it.

The Cleric dualed to Fighter is a bit too easy for a multiple replayer especially with a party. Try a Cleric/Theif, or Cleric/Mage and solo for maximum head work. For instance killing trolls with a Cleric/Theif takes a little ingenuity. - Curdis !

- The divine (column-of-fire-wand ?) deals fire damages...
- A good number of clubs/blunt weapons (wyvern tail) deals poison/acid/fire dmgs.
- Sunstone Bullets
- Flaming Blade (if its not a druid-only divine spell... I seem recall Viconias using it when you free her)
- Poison (lvl 4 spell), Flame Strike (lvl 5), Fire Seeds (lvl 6), Sol's Searing Orbs (lvl 6) and Firestorm (lvl 7) would all works too.

Troll Problem : Solved :)

EDIT : Some traps (regular ones?) deals poison damage.

RE-EDIT : Forgot to include all the potions/oils that can be used to do fireball/scorchers-type fire. There's Projectile Amulet too, from BG1, still avaiable in BG2 I think!

I was trying to give a clear example of how this class makes for a different experience.

If you go straight from Chapter one to the slavers quest you might find that you haven't remembered Flaming Blade and haven't yet obtained any of the other items that can be effective. It certainly happened to me!

I had to run and buy a potion of detonation then hack them down again. - Curdis !
