I have had this game for some time, the CD is perfect by my eyes and i've played this game before on this computer. Recently though I decided to install it again, but this time it says its having problems with this file "police_alert.mp3" it stops during the installation porcess.

If anyone could help me with this I would be very grateful,or ,let me know how I may install it manually.

There is probably a scratch on the CD where said file is located. There are some freeware programs out there that let you copy files from a scratched CD and try to recover the files.

There are also CD polishers that do an admirable job of restoring DVD videos, but I'm not certain if they would be effective on a bit-image. A DVD video can blur over some things without consequence, but data files aren't typically that kind. I suppose it would depend on the type. Do MP3s have checksums on them or some other type of integrity control that would be sensitive to a couple of bits being off? I'm not sure. I've never actually tried it. Having said that, I would try everything else first before I tried polishing the CD, as 'polishing' the CD might "polish it off" in the most literal sense.

Oh, and one other thing. You might want to try copying the contents of the CDs onto your hard disk and doing the install from there. Old speed gag. Copying the CDs to the hard disk and installing from there can be faster than installing from the CDs (at least that was true in the old days - nowadays the CDs are nearly as fast as the hard drives). Still, it might work. You never know until you try, and this is one of those nice, non-life-threatening types of solutions. If it doesn't work, you've lost nothing.

You could also try a cd copying program or try copy the files manually off the disk and then making an iso with Winiso.

You could also try another Cd player, sometimes different Cds can see/write from areas others (usually cheaper) can't.

Doesn't this belong in the Tech Support forum?

On the matter at hand I'll support Yrth's idea, and if the scratch is causing something to become unreadable, try to find out if it would be illegal or not to have someone send you those files.

You could also try whatever the company has for support on this issue, I'm sure it's a pretty common one, I've experienced this before, so they're likely to have some help methods available.
