Gaal is supposed to give you the key to that area, so if you've killed him before he gives you it...and it can't be found on his corpse then you might not be able to get in there...
Unless, you can CLUA in the key or something like that, anyway...as for how you'd do that, I don't know exactly.

It might be worth trying Shadowkeeper to place the key in your inventory.

might have to back track

is it possible you dropped it when stuffing your pack full somewhere around the ghoul lord room/bridge? There arent too many other places you would have been after getting the key except the dungeon itself. Might be a lengthy process but youre not going much further without it(unless you have a saved game prior to speaking to Gaal)

Download Shadowkeeper (a search on google should find it). Open Shadowkeeper and load your save file into it. Then you can place whatever items you want into your inventory. When you have finished, just save the file and then open Baldurs Gate 2 and play the game you just saved in Shadowkeeper

If u just attack the beholder cult head on u will NOT get the key..... he doesn't drop it.... u have 2 choices.... restart the game..... or use a cheat to get the key... i would restart..... but.... the easy way is to enable cheat mode and use the command CLUAConsole:CreateItem("key01")

if u don't know how to enable cheat mode, heres a guide.... IGN Advertisement
