One of the aspects of Pen n' Paper RPGs that I love is the capacity for limitless creativity. Literally, anything can look and behave live anything...the limits are only set by the DM's creativity and willingness to put an effort into being creative.

One of my favorite things to offer the players in my group is a rich, detailed description of any magic items they find.

I personally hate it when, after fighting the big evil warrior, the DM casually reads down the list of magic items the PCs find when they loot the corpse:

DM: "You find two potions and a magic sword"
PC: "I identify the magic sword"
DM: "OK...it is a magic sword +2"

How lame is that!

Gloves of Swimming

(+10 competence bonus to Swim checks)

A pair of thin greyish gloves made of shark skin, thus having a very rough texture...like fine sandpaper.

When the gloves are worn and are emerged in water they seal themselves to the PC. A thin, flexible membrane grows down the length of each finger webbing them together (so now the gloved hand looks kinda like a frog's foot). At the same time, a small (4") shark-like fin grows from the base of each glove over the forearm.

A very wellcrafted longbow made of chared redwood, ornamented with the ivory of a red dragon's horn, and brandishing a bow string made of densely woven Fire Giant hair.

When an arrow is nocked and the bow is drawn, a clay-like yellowish substance begins to coat the arrowhead. This yellowish substance continues to grow until fully coating the arrowhead or until a mild wind strikes the arrowhead (this wind can be from firing the arrow, moving the bow back and forth, or even blowing on the arrowhead). When the rapid air moves accross the arrowhead the substance erupts into flame, filling the air with the smell of sulpher and ammonia, and slightly stinging the eyes.

Additionally, if the arrow is ignited without being fired from the bow, the flaming arrow can be used as a small torch (emiting light in a 5' radius) that lasts 5 rounds.
