Well, I have to had some problems with that crash to my descop, though not after 10-20 min but when I start the game up.
I'm not so good with computers and those specs thells me as much as mangoes about this but when I had that problem I whent to the configurations and lowered the grafic setting.
I had put it to max becouse I was pretty sure that my computer should be able to handle it but never the less I had to lower it.

May be a very poor advice but try it.
If that doesn't work: Have you ever unstalled it and reinstalled it before?
Because if you have then there's a good chance that some of the files didn't became removed properly the first time you unstalled it. And if that's the problem you must uninstall the game, find the un-uninstalled files by yourself and delete them, the install the game.

I am afraid this is very poor advices indeed but it could be worth trying. :)

Poison-Violet, do you have anything running in the background? A screensaver, anti-virus, anti-spam, anything else? Try disabling all those, so they aren't running before you start up BG2, and see if it helps.

I had a similar problem with the first Baldurs Gate. I fixed it in that game by changing my screen resolution. It may be worth a shot to change the resolution in this case as well. Can't remember exactly what I had to set it to though.

You might also try upgrading your Nvidia drivers.

Make sure you're BG2 is fully patched, as well.

I seem to remember having a mysterious crash everytime the spell "cloudkill" was cast, as well, and I found I could only encounter that spell safely this the sound turned all the way off in the configuration screen.

Unfortunately for you, I never fixed the problem beyond that workaround... I bought a new PC a few weeks later, and it didn't occur on that one.

Oh, and Fable's advice might fix it, too, but be sure to either disconnect from the internet, or leave your firewall running (even just the Windows SP2). Broadband connections leave you vulnerable without a firewall, even if not surfing. Most people probably don't even think of that as a process, but I just want to caution you to be safe...

Stramoski's absolutely right about that, and I would never, ever suggest that somebody connected to the Web take down their firewall. That should remain in place always, running in the background, because there are round-the-clock attempts being made to find backdoors to computer systems. Your firewall's the strongest line of defense against hacking.

Sometimes the newest Nvidia drivers don't work so well with games produceed long before the drivers, however the version 56.72 drivers work quite well with Infinitiy Engine games (such as BG2). You should check that your graphics card is supported by that specific driver before using it, though.
