Windspear Hills:
..
..
..
..
..
Just started going through the dungeon, walked around a corner and was met by...

8 Vampires
6 Ghasts
5 Greater Mummys
3 Mummys...
and a bunch of other undead, all at once who swarmed my party, had them all dire charmed, panicking, held, level drained & killed within a few moments. What the hell is that? I re-loaded a few times and the last time we (Minsc, my pure mage, Jaheira & Yoshimo)were hasted, blessed, protected by invisibility & 2 summoned Ogre Beserkers, 2 Gibberlings and 1 Fire Elemental)...I softened the enemy up while they were dallying with my summoned defenders with 2 Chain Lightnings, 5 Magic Missiles, a well placed Fireball, etc, etc,...killed almost all of them, and then more Vampires came!! Soon, all of my friends' portraits had turned that ashen grey colour...and then, alas, the withering hand appeared.

I shall overcome next time...

*That* is one of the kick-a$$ battles. I ran into that. Check out a post around page 2/3 about frenzied battles.

Just retreat to the corridor doorway - have negative plane protection on one guy at the door. There are slits youcan fire/poke long wepons thru.

Dead easy, even with vamps climbing the walls to get at you! Image

My strd.
Wait in small room dont go corridor. Summon as musch as you can. Spells Haste Bless Speed all of them. All Mages spells Meteor...
Send you mage corridor. Cast area spells cloudkiill or death fog. Run in to room. Send summoned to front line. Then your fighters while they drained kiiled shot them with spells. DONT forget to use Daystars Sunray ability.
after 4th try i pass with this. (loaded when my characters drained)

Wail till you ran into Fircraag himself Image

Honestly, this is an easy battle if you do what is mentioned above or invent another strategy of yours. Even a low-level party should do the job.

Hint, just one way to do it, but I took almost no damage:

Ice storm, the more the better. By the time they came out to look for me there was little left of them.

stay away from the door, use a party menber to open and get the hell out, if you have a cleric(not Aerie)use turn undead, that can kill some of the lower level undead and make some of the others to run away. if not use the above statagies. Its really a nasty suprise.

If you have no evil chars in your party the 'Holy Smite' spell works wonders against hordes of evil creatures (like vampires, shadows and other undead), while it won't hurt your party. So just cast into melee combat, with your 'anti-evil-fireball'.

Drakron and Black hand. It could be a problem turning undead and casting holy smite with that party (read the first post).

Anyway with a party of 4 this should be a hard fight. Good luck with the rest of the dungeon.

I remember that battle being quite easy, but that's probably because Windspear Hills was the very last quest left before I set off to the Asylum. I was kinda high in level already.

Thanks for the tips everyone, though I know I'll get it next time (or the one right after that). I just wanted to vent, I think it's a pretty damn cool surprise. My party is kinda low level, and there are only four of us, and, ummm, no wait there were 23 Vampires, and uh 475 elder orbs.....
