Healing and Mana potions not working

Everytime I take a potion I get the "you were unable to absorb the Mana/Life" and my health or whatever stays the same. Big problem when in the middle of a fight.
Anyone else had this problem, or know how to fix it?

How odd. You only get that message - or a similar one - if your capacity is full. How long have you had this problem? Has it always been the same, or is it recent? Could it be due to disease? I don't remember that happening, but it has been quite a while since I played.

It's a fairly recent change, but it probably isn't really an issue now as I've just upgraded PC's and the character that's affected is on the old PC which my 3 year old has taken over.
I'm not sure if I'll start playing again on this PC or not. I'm currently playing Diablo2 and Morrowind on this one so Lionheart isn't quite so important. However if someone does work out the problem then I'd still like to know how to fix it!
