How to keep Yoshimio ALIVE

Before leaving for SpellHold,
use a cursed scroll or your
mage's spell to petrify it (turn him
to stone). His script WILL NOT change.
Just UN-Stone him when you get back,
and he will stay with you.

The Dude,
Imoen is **** compared to Yoshi !
She's weak (so she can't backstab
successfully), she has few hit points,
even her thief skills are bad.
She's not a good mage etc. etc. etc.
She is bad.
If you need a mage, take Edwin or Nalia.

Isn't Imoen as good as Nalia(or even better) once she reaches the experience cap?

Yeah, but Nalia blows too. (grin) Yoshimo is a better pure thief than Nalia or Imoen, and Edwin is a better pure mage than either of them. Jan is superior to both girls in all categories, so I'd go with him anyway.

Jan's awesome, but he's certainly not a better spell-caster. He's multi-classed, and therefore can't reach the same spell-casting potential as either Imoen or Nalia. Both of them can hit level 17 as a mage and still retain their thief abilities.
I kept Imoen on as my mage and thief. She does indeed suck at hiding in shadows, and therefore backstabbing, but I never found it to be a big loss. She can do the two things that you absolutely
need a thief for very well: pick locks, and find/disarm traps. Besides, who in their right mind could ditch their annoying little sister!?

I agree.Anyway,I mainly used her to disarm traps and open locks, maybe summon a few creatures.Heck, she even finished the game without getting into battle(hey, she needed to be 'protected' from the evil creatures out to get her

)

ok i'm glad to see that i'm not the only one who thinks that imoen doesn't suck.
she isn't a bad mage and here thief ability's
are also not bad.
I dont use hide in shadows much, the ring of invisebillity is good enough for me.
And backstabbing isn't as fun as slashing youre way through horeds of goblins

Second time through I solved this problem a fun/hard way. That is, I plowed through chaps 1 and 2 as fast as possible, saving virtually ALL the quests you usually complete in chaps 2&3 for after the underdark.
The up: Imoen gets a lot of XP before you move on to Tethir and she makes a damn fine mage (IMHO).
The down: Obviously, you end up going through the asylum and the underdark with relatively weak characters and not so much great equipment. But there's a silver lining here--the challenge was super fun. I got my ass kicked plenty, but I was still able to make it through without cheating. Good fun.

Why is everybody talking about Nalia and Imoen?
I prefer Jan Jansen. He is a excellent thief and a excellent mage.
Are there any others out there who favors Jan, like me?

Ho hum, not this discussion again. Personally I hate them all.
Jan is short, Edwin is a hermaphrodite, Nalia is posh, Imoen is annoying and Yoshimo is treacherous dog-filth.
