I am planning to build my own computer. It's not going to be anything to flashy. Just enough to run a game like oblivion smoothly. (maybe that is a bit flashy. I'm not to sure.) I was wondering how much it would cost. Could you have a look at the list below and say how much you think it would cost.
Thanks

1 Gig of ram.
A decent graphics card prefrably an ATI.
Sound card. (I don't know if there's much difference between them all.)
A motherboard that all of this would fit into with space to upgrade.
A decent prossesser.
200 Gig hardrive
Anything else I missed.

Are you putting it into an existing PC? Or creating a completely fresh one?

1 Gig of ram.
OCZ Value Series 1GB (2 x 512MB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 667 (PC2 5400) Unbuffered Dual Channel Kit - $81.99

However by now 2GB RAM is becoming standard, therefore also consider this:
mushkin 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Unbuffered Dual Channel Kit System Memory Model 991503 - $149.99

A decent graphics card prefrably an ATI.
"decent" means exactly nothing. For the time being Nvidia has the edge under $200 USD.
eVGA 256-P2-N554-AX Geforce 7600GT KO 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card - $165.99

For oblivion you might want to consider something more expensive, like:
ATI 100-435840 Radeon X1800XT 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card - $249.99

Sound card. (I don't know if there's much difference between them all.)
Already on motherboard. Since you don't know about the difference between them, you probably won't care.
A motherboard that all of this would fit into with space to upgrade.
ASRock ConRoeXFire-eSATA2 Socket T (LGA 775) Intel 945P ATX Intel Motherboard - $82.99
A decent prossesser.
Intel Core 2 Duo E6300, approx. $200 USD (Newegg does not have price yet)
200 Gig hardrive
The only decent 200GB hard drive out there costs the same as one of the best 250GB hard drives.
HITACHI Deskstar T7K250 HDT722525DLA380 (0A31636) 250GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - $79.99

Things you missed:
DVD Writer: LG 16X DVD±R Super-Multi DVD Burner With 12X DVD-RAM Write Beige E-IDE/ATAPI Model GSA-H10NB - $30.99

Power supply: Antec SmartPower 2.0 SP-500 ATX12V 500W Power Supply - $69.99

Case: $30

Thanks rookie.
I think I'll go with the more expensive version. That way it will last longer.

If you really want to play Oblivion at a decent setting than get an ATI card...since they do better in Oblivion than Nvidia does due to AA + HDR ;)

I also agree with the processor that Rookie picked...although if you want you could go and get the next one thats after that and that one will set you for a while. great overclocker too ;)
