remove Yoshimos equipment? Before I go sailing to Brynnlaw, before entering Asylum or what? Never had Yoshi with me till now, so I have to know...

With me, it was right before I talked to "the guy" inside the asylum who gives you the tour. Possible SPOILER

If you don't get his equipment off of him before you join with the other "inmates" to battle Irenicus, Yoshimo comes back in to fight you so you can kill him and get his heart. I'm pretty sure you can still get the stuff off of him after he dies, but I don't know for sure.
