Bug Help

I have gotten quite far into the game, and now all of a sudden, as soon as I load my saved game, I get a bug that crashes it and reads "An assertion failed in D:\Dev\Baldur\CPathSearc.ccp at line number 724" I would be ever grateful for any help, as I am in chapter 6 and don't want to have to start over or anything.

No idea if any of this'll work...
Try clearing your "Cache" folder. This is in "c:\Program Files\Black Isle\Baldur's Gate", or something like that.
Try reinstalling your game. Backup your "Savegame" folders first, of course.
Make sure you installed either the main game patch, OR the expansion patch if you have TotSC installed (not both). Unless you have "The Original Saga" version of the game: it comes patched out of the box.
One of your discs might have a flaw, and a bad file was copied during installation. Re-buy "The Original Saga" as a last resort. Remember to backup your save game.

Well after I had the problems last night, I thought, hmm, maybe there are patches out, not realizing or reading that I don't need and really shouldn't install patches if I have the original saga, so, before I try any of your advice it looks like I will have to reinstall anyway to fix my own error.

Bad times. Reinstalled completely, instant I load my saved game, exact same error message.
