Which do you think is the best party if your base char is a mage?

I got a mage, Jaheira, Aerie, Valygar, Minsc, Yoshimo. I'm on the early stages...

When you get later in the game, you will be given the chance to save jan jensen from a tax or government agent, i suggest you do. He is not only a good thieve with his invesions but also a decent mage. I don't want to promote him to much but you can't go wrong with him. He's just indespecable. I gotta get back to the basement.

exactly where are you in the game? i have exactly the same party and they all serve me well. I'm on the floor above firkaag atm.

okies, i've now moved on, did three or four more quests and still have the same party. I love this party and it's very succesful. Aerie and i casting in the back, jaheira a flexible spellcaster/fighter (i got her dragon armor, shield, and helmet. her ac is now -10), minsc and valygar toe to toe fighters, and yoshimo as an archer/backstabber/thief. I think im gonna stick with this party...
(btw i have seen jan jansen but i have no need for a full thief. Only need a person to detect traps from time to time and not scout, backstab every time, etc.)

dont use yoasho he might be good in the beginning but hes useless in the later chapters. use jan or imoen instead a nice party would be korgan, kelderon, iomen or jan, anomen and minsc

well i hate to dissapoint you Jetlar but i can tell you that u wont be sticking with that party i can assure you.
I wont say anymore or i will spoil the plot

well I got a mage protagonist and my party is constitued of:
-Imoen (my theift for traps and etc)
-Jhaeria (miss cure, and miss summon for backup)
And for my warrior kicking ass crew:
-Minsc
-Keldorn (with chromyr (sp?)
-Valygar
-=-=-=-=-
(that's my party and I just finished the asylum, and damn Iranicus!! he scare the hell out of me... "with his little experiment, I'm wondering what's gonna happen" ;PP

Yeah I got a pretty good party, just passed the game for the first time with em:
- Me (standard mage)
- Minsc
- Korgan
- Viconia
- Valygar
- Edwin
notice I had no thief
but "knock" and "find traps" made most of the stuff the thiefs can offer unecessary.
Even thought its waay more convinient with a thief.
Starting from the beginning now. I think I wanna be a monk or something, try a kit. I duno , we'll see
