Glitch in the M&M VIII? (possible spoilers)

I just recently got a copy of Might and Magic VIII, and I had only played it for two days when I ran into a problem. While going through the abandoned temple in the Dagger Wound Island, I came accross the room that has the floor that slowly opens. To get past this room, there are eight buttons you need to push. Every time I'm in that room, I can't get the buttons to work. I've tired hitting them, shooting at them, looking up, looking down, you name it. But I can't get them to work and nothing ever happens, so my only choices are to fall and die or quickly reload the game.
I can't skip this room and I can't get any further on the game untill I get through the abandoned temple.
So, has anyone else had this problem? Why wont the game recognized I am pushing the buttons? Is there something I can do about it?

I haven't played the game since it first came out, but just as a thought: did you try hitting the spacebar, when you're relatively close to each? That may be the activator.

Nesa, welcome to the forums
I'll change the title this time but in future can you type (spoilers) in the title when giving away parts of the game. This is to avoid other members reading something that they didn't want to know about in advance. I know this is an old game but there may still be people browsing this forum who haven't got that far in the game yet. Thanks

Sorry about not putting "spoilers" in the thread title. I have never posted on a gaming site before and don't know all the rules here.
But yes, I did try the spacebar, it was the first thing I tried. I have now tried every key and just can't get past there. Thats why i'm thinking it might be a glitch, because NOTHING activates the buttons. But I don't know how to fix or get around the glitch.
Thanks.

Odd. Did you look online for a patch?

I hope its a problem that can be fixed with a patch. But I don't know where to find it, I was looking for ideas on here.

You don't use Google, or an equivalent search engine? Because I would first search there on the game's title and "patch."

I've had a search on google and I can't find any patches for M&M VIII. Of course this doesn't mean there isn't one, but if there is then I have no idea where to find it.
This is from a walkthrough I found. It doesn't mention having to push eight buttons:
From walkthrough by Lu Richardson:
Abandoned Temple
----------------
Wade in, keep left. Explore the place patiently, keeping an eye on
the map to make sure you miss nothing. After you get in, the first
room you'll come to has many blocks and also snake thingies. Kill
them, go to the top two alcoves and push the buttons, then to the
other two and do the same. Stairs form in front of the next door
and you can move on. There are chests either side, behind secret
doors.
Onwards, you will step into a room and probably fall through the
floor. Come back up and look at the ceiling - the path is marked in
red. Follow it and on to the next room. As soon as you click on
the door opposite the one you entered, both doors will shut and
panels will light up on all four walls. Quickly go around clicking
on the panels to stop the floor from disappearing altogether before
you can get out. You might need to press X to jump onto the
different levels of the floor.
As you come out of this room, look to your right and go through the
door. Keep left, push buttons, go through doors. You will come to
a kind of bridge with a secret door to one side. Inside is a book
you are going to need. Work your way out of here.
Back at the door through which you came into this section, continue
to your right. You'll come to a big room with lots of red plates on
the floor. Look to your left and spot a double headed snake panel.
Go to it, avoiding the plates, and stand by it with your back to the
wall. Look to your left and then stand on the red plate in front of
the red plate by the wall, towards the centre of the room. This
opens the panel and you can get the idol. Leave this room avoiding
the plates and you will get to the exit.

The wall panels you have to activate have red 'eyes' on them. Use your cursor and activate each panel, making sure the 'eyes' go dark. ALL the panels have to have dark eyes for the floor to stop moving and the door to open. You have to move FAST, so start at one side of the entrance door and work round in order. It's doable. But you MUST turn all the 'eyes' dark.
I've recently given the game away because it doesn't work on this machine, so I can't check which is the activate key.

I'd swear I've seen one around the Web, but I can't find it at the moment, either.

If you still need a solution I recommend googling 'telp' or typing
TELP's MM8 Tavern They still have active forums on M&M 6-9 with dozens of daily posts where either Bones or kkc (if you ask nicely that is; they they seem to be fixing everyone's glitches including mine) will patch the game for you, if needed. Not all glitches can be fixed, however but yours should be if it is a glitch indeed.

It's supposed to do that - a little trap thing to make your life more interesting

Just do what Fljotsdale suggested and you'll get through. On the side note, there are some doors/switches in the series that can be activated trough the spacebar *only* but none in M&M8 AFAIK. Oh and do check out castle gobs (
Castle Gobs ) my personal favorite M&M spot. These are some of the oldest and most experienced M&M fans out there, most of which i remember from the old 3DO forums that had a leveling system.. Eh those were the days

In any case they are currently making a Might&Magic Tribute game, be sure to check that out too. Cheers!
