If anyone has interest in playing IWD2 with joinable NPCs, I have just published information about the mod that will allow you to do so in the foreseeable future. Please, check out the forum if you are curious how it will work, and if you are interested in helping with testing etc:

That looks very promising and tbh, a lot of hard work I commend you for having a go (BG1 NPC project is awesome by the way!). I missed out on IWD for years and it seems that the community for it is not so large, and mods are very hard to find...so it's nice to see something really worthwhile in the making Good luck with it, I'll be checking up for updates regularly.
