Crossing the Vivec cantons

I think most beginners are going to thank me for starting this thread (or perhaps I'm totally alone....)
I've searched the forum and can't find the answer.

I've walked all over the Foreign Quarters, stolen tons of books, bartered, got info, killed a rat or two and all that. But not once have I seen a boat (or gondola as I read on some site somewhere).

Might win the award for the dumbest question ever, but I have to ask...

How exactly the HECK do you get from one canton to the other? Without levitating either. I just want a bridge or a boat, or a hot air balloon, whatever is available that is not magic.

Where exactly are the boats, where are the boat people, where exactly are the bridges?

I'm such a noob..... :D

There is a bridge outside on the ground level of each canton. Near the bridges, or a bit further around the walkway there are steps down to a boat, with a boat operator at the top of the steps.

I must admit though, I hate travelling around Vivec so I do just use levitation :)

To get to the boats, you have to go the Underworks level and look for ladders or stairs leading down to the water.

There are also bridges connecting the cantons, just look around the whole outside level to find them.

You will get the hang of all of this very quickly!! :)

Levitation is also an option, when you get that spell. :)

In some cases there are also bridges on the top tiers, for exampple I beleive their is an upper bridge connecting the Hlaalu and Redoran cantons.

Also, if you get lost in Vivec a really good way to get your bearings is to cast Almsivi Intervention which will always put you right in front of the Temple.

Look for people on the bottom level with funky hats, thems your mens with the boats.

If your a really good acrobat, you can jump from the top of one canton to the bottom of the other, all you need to do is free your mind neo... wait.
Just vamp up your speed and acrobatics skill, get for a good running start, and try for a world record long jump.

And from the lady you see right before you, buy yourself a potion of levitation. Walk around to the right hand side of the platform (not going up or down stairs) you'll find a shrine. Offer this shrine your levitation potion and you'll have an extra long length levitation spell.

If you're facing the shrine directly from the front, turning right 90 degrees and jumping down a level will show you a boat traveller who can take you to many of the cantons.

And as annoying as it'll be, explore the whole area. Why? Because once you've uncovered it, when you enter a canton, you just look around your map to find the bridge-like area that exists on the cantons, and you'll find your boatman there.

What a great response, thanks so much everyone!

I ended up having to jump down from the level above the bridges, I was going nuts! Somehow I avoided injury, etc.

I worked my way back up and then still lost myself later! lol

But here is the Dummy's version for anyone who finds this thread.

ANSWER:

The way down to the bridge level is somewhat hidden.
When inside the waistworks, make your way to one of the corridors.
Once there, take the door at the end of the short side corridor rather than one of the two long ones.
Upon immediate exit, don't walk ahead, but turn left or right. If it's dark it'll look like there's nothing there. But walk ahead and you'll be at the top of a downslope to the bridge level!

It helps going outside when it's day time.

The boat people are now also on that bridge level outside area.

So simple when you know..... it's getting to the knowing part.... lol

With the jumping, I use that a fair bit. I've found, that if you simply leap over the wall, without touching it, then when you hit the ground you'll be hurt. If you leap onto the wall, then walk off, you'll land on the next level without pain. Though you can always use levitate if you want, or a slowfall...
