I have a cavalier as my main character. I'm looking for a good fighter. I have anomen and like his clerical spells and abilities, but I was thinking about replacing him with Valygar or Mazzy. Any suggestions?
My party Cavalier, Minsc, Anomen, Jaheira, Jan and Aerie.

First off Valygar is not that great so count him out. I would keep Anomen around unless you get tired of his self absorbed attitude. If you do decide to get rid of him replace him with Mazzy. She is an awesome warrior despite her small size. Better yet get rid of Jan and put Mazzy in his place that would leave you with the best of both worlds.
Be happy while you're living, for you're a long time dead.

Hmmmm, I had the same question, but after fooling with Valygar (who is the coolest NPC in the game, look wise....dual Kats etc.) He seemed to be lacking in the group and I died alot more. To be honest with you, I find that if I really have to heal mid fight, I am gonna lose...all healing does is help with Downtime, so I formed my party with the following:
Main - Cavalier (2-hander)
Minsc - Ranger (2-hander)
Jaheira - Fighter/Druid (Backup heal/ Sword/Shield)
Mazzy - Fighter (SHORTBOW- she is the best archer your gonna find unless you make 1)
Aeria - Cleric/Mage (Clerical buffing, and Wiz Offense)
Nalia - Thief/Mage (Great Find/Remove, and lots of mastery thief potions for Pick locks, and Wiz assist spells and Offense)
This combo has seemed to work for me quite well

The answer to the original question depends on whether or not Anomen is your only priest. If so, you need to keep him. Otherwise, I say dump him. Both of the others are better. I can't say I agree with those who say Valygar is useless. I use him as an archer and single-weapon wielding Celestial Fury (helps your AC). Equip him with the Shadow Dragon Scale armor and he makes a fab scout/backstabber who can also provide great melee support. But then Mazzy is great too. Bow of Gesen was practically made for her. Some people thing range weapons are for wimps, but I don't think there's anything weak about it. Having one or two range specialists is a great strategy for spell disruption and a few other things. I personally have the following in my second game:
me (undead hunter)
Mazzy
Valygar
Jahiera
Nalia
Imoen
Dig it.

That all depends on your equipment. My first choice would probably be Anomen, even though I can't stand his script, he's the obvious person to give the Cromfaeyr to out of the three that you mentioned.
Of course, any one of them can be trained to use a warhammer, but Anomen comes ready to go.
Second choice would be Valygar, with his high stealth scores and backstabbing ability, he's nice to have around in your party. But, the game seems to take some special exceptions to him, like he can't backstab with his family blade, which is a katana, which means you SHOULD be able to backstab with it.
Mazzy is a nice fighter also, but she joins you as a level 12, which means she'll only get two more points to assign to proficiencies of your choice. The ones that she comes with aren't all that great.
