Corprus disease question (SPOILERS)

Any way (On Xbox) I can avoid restarting my game after I've contracted corprus disease (defeated Dagoth Gares AND killed Corprusarium inmates long ago)? Divayth will not give me the dialog to get boots, only says I have to live with my actions, 'Goodbye'. I'm curious if there's another solution for this since I have not received the 'thread is broken' message?

I've put in over 200 hours into this game and have no saved games that are so far back in my journeys before I killed the inmates. 8(

This may not work, as he is already talking to you, but you could try casting a 'calm humanoid' spell.

Also, I'm not certain on this either, as I haven't tried, but what happens if you kill the dwemer, and retrieve the boots manually (not sure if that'll work). If you do pick up the boots, it might run a script overriding the goodbye, and let you get the potion.

And in future, could you place the word SPOILER in your thread title, just so if a person who hasn't found this yet knows not to look here at risk of having the game information revealed. :)

It doesn't work.

You don't *get* a potion. You drink the potion in dialogue.

There is a bug in an older version of the game. If you stand naked, it sometimes resets dialogue...

I'm putting up the SPOILER tag. The sticky at the top of the thread that's supposed to be read before posting explains why. Please remember to use SPOILER on spoiler threads in the future, or your threads may suddenly vanish like the flowers of spring. ;)

Sorry about that. My first time posting and due to frustration I didn't even consider that. However, I think I found a way to do it 8) I appreciate your responses.

Yeah, I knew you didn't get the potion, otherwise I'd say kill him. But if memory serves, I think the boots you are given are in the inventory (though I could be wrong), so I thought that perhaps that could work...

Anyway, glad to hear it all worked out. Just for curiosity's sake (and maybe future people with this problem), could you please post the solution?

I had been told by several people to stock up on telvanni bug musk and Divayth will give me topic options to select. It's been confirmed (each has said 'somewhere over 30 bug musks)it works however my problem is that after several hours' search, I've only found a few.
I also tried vendors I've sold bug musk to (Creeper mostly) but the vendors finally reset their wares after hundreds of hours of gameplay /sigh

As bug mask just raises personality, can you not just make lots of fortify personality potions. If you make some fortify intelligence potions first then take them before making the personality potions you can make some pretty powerful fortify personality potions that are a lot better than bug mask, so you wouldn't need as many.

I've honestly never attempted to create any type of potion so other than the ingredients I'm embarrassed to say I have no idea which items to use to create one.

To create decent potions you need the 4 pieces of alchemy equipment. You can find a full set of master equipment in the tower part of the Mages Guild in Caldera. Once you have those and the ingredients, you use a piece of alchemy equipment by moving it over your picture in the inventory screen. You then select the ingredients to use to create the potion. You may fail a few times but if you boost your intelligence really high you can create good potions even with low alchemy skill.

Do I need to use all 4 pieces of the alchemy set or just one or two...? Intelligence is 100 and alchemy is 105, I'll putz around when I get home from work, thanks for your input!

You only need one item to create a potion (the mortar and pestle). Without this you cannot create a potion. But the more items you use, the better the quality of the potion.

I can't remember which item is which, but one decreases the effect of bad things, another increases the effect of good things, the final increases the time.
1: Mortar and Pestle - Required to mix a potion, and determines the
initial potion strength.
2: Retort - Increases the magnitude and duration of all
positive effects in a potion.
3: Alembic - Decreases the magnitude and duration of all
negative effects in a potion.
4: Calcaiator - Increases the magnitude and duration of all
effects in a potion
There we go!

And if you can't afford the equipment, or at least, good versions, you can steal a GrandMaster's M&P and Masters of the rest from the White Haven in Balmora. It takes a little bit of stealth, but it's pretty easy. You'll find the Mortar on the bookshelf to your left when you enter, the other equipment in one of the crates to your right.

I tried the alchemy gig and it worked just fine: created a fortify int potion +55, consumed it and made several fortify personality potions which I believe were +62.
I only needed to consume one personality potion for Divayth to 'I won't forget what you've done but I forgive you' give me options and continue the game. Thanks to all who've responded! I now am having fun learning to make potions as well, you guys are great 8)

I find alchemy can solve the majority of problems I come across in the game, especially anything involving getting NPCs to like me - plus its relatively cheap.

Glad you got it sorted :)
