Newbie Advice Needed

I bought the game today and am awaiting delivery, however i am an exceptionally impatient person so with RPGs i tend to look at what characters i can be and, in effect, plan them before i start!

I have been looking at the disciplines and i would really like to use Thaumaturgy, Dementation and Dominate, i dont know how many i can concentrate on, however even 1 of those three look like fun to use! I would also quite like to be the 'intelligent' vampire class who can talk/think their way out of situations without having to resort to a masacre.

My main question is which clan should i be in to incorporate the 'intelligent' aspect and any of the disciplines i have listed? And which stats should i concentrate on?

Also, i see there are unofficial patches and i was wondering if it was worth installing the latest of these and the latest official one? Also, has anyone fixed the gun damage, as i read that they are majorly underpowered making them virtually useless unless you have a very high weapon (or is it firearm) skill? (I thought, maybe, this would be in the unofficial patch)

Sorry if some of these questions seem stupid, but as i said i have only ever seen screens, videos and read reviews of the game!

Thanks

Just thought, is there a special order i need to install the patches in, for example official then unofficial?

Official 1.2 patch, then the latest unofficial patch. And yeah...better install them.

Tremere or Malkavian are your obvious choices for character. Tremere do have Thaumaturgy and Domination, Malkavian Dementation.
Playing a Malkavian once is a must anyway....

Have fun !

Please do a search on version or patch--that's why we have search, here. ;) We've had some very extensive discussion on just these points, and they're stored in our database. Our site owner doesn't want thread duplication on the boards, so I'm closing your thread. But if you find the other ones don't directly address whatever concerns you may have, feel free to open a new thread.
