heavy armor vs light

I was just wondering what kind of armor people like, or if they just use enchanted clothes. And which style they like the best. I like light armor because it lets you move faster and be more stealthy.

I wish "depends/all of the above" was an option - it depends entirely on the kind of character I'm running.

Charon the Terminator (Redguard custom combat class focused on endurance, strength, & melee skills): full set of Daedric, all 6 pieces enchanted with a grand soul gem for +10 Strength each. Dishes out (and takes) ridiculous damage, and will never, ever stop until you are dead.

Anna the Diplomat: (Imperial custom stealth class focused on personality, speed & agility): no armor - just a variety of pretty outfits with various useful enchantments. Hmm, the blouse of acrobatics or the doublet of speed today... decisions, decisions. If she can't talk to it or sneak past it, she can outrun it.

Dumarest the Traveler (Redguard custom combat/stealth hybrid focused on speed & luck): chainmail enchanted for strengh for combat missions, and glass enchanted with chameleon for stealth missions. With apologies to E.C. Tubb for blatantly ripping off his "Dumarest of Terra" series.

Since you wanted it, I've added it. :) I've also added my vote for the last.

I prefer Light. Less weight to burden the character means she can carry more loot. And since I never use a pure Warrior there is never the need for heavy.

Belthan? Your Imperial lady: did you always have her just in pretty dresses? Or did she start with armour until she got the enchanted stuff? I've always liked the idea of floating round dungeons in a frivolous frock instead of armour!

i like the heavy because well the deadric armor is heavy and its stronger, but i do like light armor to mainly just the DB(dark brotherhood) and the elvan but on the poll i voted the heavy all the way.

Plus if you have a good feather spell it doesnt matter and it raises you alteration as well

Hi all,

I used a combined set of heavy and light armor:

Helm of the bear ( the one's you receive after finishing the figther's guild)
Devil Cuirass ( a daedric armor enchanted with +50 to mana )
Perfect Circle ( glass gauntlet +25 frozen shield very cool )
Greaves of Poise ( glass greaves +10 agility )
Zeratul magic plus :) ( ebony boots +50 mana, obviously Zeratul is my char name )
Shield of .... I don't remember :) ( glass shield 10% reflect damage )

It works very well and I have 85 armor :)

Though I have tried to steer away from this in my games, it seems I can't stay away from enchanted Heavy armor. Since that option isn't availible, I'll just go with Heavy.

I like my Black hand robes a lot cause it reminds me of my hero lucien how died cause of those idiots who thought the sweetess lookin villian in the whole game was a traitor!! HOW COULD HE BE A TRAITOR!!!!

Enchanted clothes, barley ever use armour enless its a mage character. The Black Hand Robes are dooo evil and have 75 pointsd worth of stats bonuses! that wipes the floor with any thing ive ever had, but if your bot evil...

there is a house in Bruma, third from the left as u enter the main get, its belonges to a cat-person (i cant spell the name) go inside, head sown the stairs and look in the corner, u will find a hard locked keg, open it and u will have the robes and hood (they count as stollen)

Belthan inspired me to try going without armour by his description of one of his chars, so I built one designed to be armourless and almost weaponless. She is now level 10, in simple unenchanted clothing until now (she now has shirt and shoes that give her 14 armour class) and I was amazed at how well she got on with no armour! I gave her Conjuration as her one Major magic skill, just so that she could get a conjured cuirass - but so far I have used it ONCE! I forget I have the spell available. :o
So I am very well-pleased (so far) with no armour at all for this char.

Pretty much 100% armorless from level 1, although up to level 10 or so she carried a chainmail cuirass for emergencies, and she still keeps a set of iron greaves around for those times she feels like going with the "Dickensian waif" look :)

Ah. Yes, my girl emerged from the sewers with armour, but I took it off right away and put her back in sackcloth until she found nicer stuff in the Market District boxes. I let her keep a leather shield, though, so that she could build up Block (for Endurance points) and to provide a bit of protection early on. And I bought a Touch Electrical spell as soon as we got to the Market! It proved VERY useful. Less effective now, of course. I have to get her a better Touch Destruction spell. Although it is in Minor skills, I let her use a dagger, too, in close combat. Builds up her strength a bit.

Hmm, nice idea... I hadn't taken the "no armor" thought to its logical conclusion of "no armor or weapons". Looks like my next char will be a "mystical monk" type. I'm thinking hand-to-hand, block, destruction, alteration, acrobatics & sneak for starters.

I voted for the last option. Light armor for the first part of the game and then switcjomg to heavy for the end game once my char can enchant and carry the load. I used to love to play Morrowind as an unarmored pilgrim, beating everything to death with my fists. I miss not having an unarmored skill in this game. With a complete set of feather/fortify strength enchanted deadric armor I can jump and run as well as I did in my light armor.

Heavy

Well I just love the look they are, and if i have problems with loot I cast a feather on myself (feather is useful in oblivion. not like Morrowind, I can cast a feather of 100 points for 120 sec on me anytime for only 40 magicka or so :) )

Absolutly Light Armor. I raised my HAR skill only for the END attr. to raise. Never realy used a heavy armor item. I'had just waer then and let me beaten by very lesser creatures, that was all.

Cause they are better, also wearing both is not a wise option since the armor weight is reduced to ZERO and Armor Class has PLUS 50% if you waer only light armor (First option at Expert Skill, second at Master)

While heavy Armor has not these skills, and skill upgrades not are so benefitfull as light armor.

Also even with light armor you can easly have the armor class of 85 (wich is max.) enchant your armor with shield or use a ring with the spell). So why heavy?

The only thing good at the heavy armor is they looks better then light.

Also you can't loot enough with heavy. What is a another problem.
