Hi. I havn't played Oblivion for quite a while. Let's say... 1-2 months? But when i started playing it again, it started lagging alot! WAY more than before. My graphics card is GeForce FX 5200 so it's not very good. I have to play with Oldblivion. I played with Oldblivion and it still gives a lot of lag. Does anyone noe y? thankyou!

Try going to the settings of oldblivion and turning all those specs down as much as possible, then all the specs in the normal game down as much as possible (in case you hadn't done BOTH already).
I sometimes forget that I have anti-aliasing on with oblivion but off with oldblivion, so that did lag it with my FX 5500.

Don't forget to reduce the viewing distance as well. This option severly impacts the game performance and lowering it will drastically improve the game performance, though you might see objects materialise in front of you whenever you move forward.

Oh, almost forgot. If you have the patch installed, no need for oldblivion. Set your specs to "Very low" and it should be pretty alright. The beta patch has some functions that oldblivion has built into it.

Please: I'm a rather non-tech old lady, so - what does anti-aliasing DO? Because I don't know, I've never dared touch that setting! But if changing it can help with lagging, I'd like to try it. BUT not unless I know what it does!
Thanks.

Basically what Anti-Aliasing does is to smooth out the rough edges of the game, giving it a more cleaner and sharper look. However, it will severly impact the game's performance as it will put some stress on your video card to maintain that look. Removing it will make the game perform better but at the expense of the looks. You can try it if you want but just make sure your graphics card is good enough to handle it (preferably high-end). That's my advice.

Thank you! I have an adequate graphics card - not the best, but pretty decent. I'll try what switching it off does. At the moment I think ant-aliasing must be on because the graphics are irritatingly fuzzy. Nothing seems to be in sharp focus. Clear enough, but unsharp.
It could be worse without it, though!
But now that I know what it does, I will give it a go. I appreciate your help.
