I have played BG since first released and have many a wander round over the years. However each time I play I keep wondering is there a point to this ring you pick up in the Naskel mines.
I assume it belongs to a miner but can't for the life of me find Joseph!
So can anyone help, I realise I'm probably missing the very obvious but please put me out of my misery.
Thanks

In Nashkel, in the most east-southern corner of the map, you can find a house that is locked. Get rid of the lock and you'll find a woman inside who tells you that she is worried about her husband Joseph who went to work in the mines some time ago. She tells you that he's recognizable by his greenstone ring. Since you can only find a greenstone ring, you can assume that Joseph has died in the mines (darn kobolds) and can take the ring to the worried widow to break to her the terrible news (darn iron crisis). It's no big deal if didn't talk to the wife before you went into the mines, just bring her the ring. You can solve this side-quest either good or bad. Hope that helps.

Actually, I brought her the ring without having talked to her first and couldn't finish it.

Oh... But maybe talking first to her to get the quest and then a second time to finish it? Does that help?

That is how I usually do it when I forget to visit the house before venturing to the mines.

Anyone know how to get around not having talked to the wife before getting the ring? I can't seem to get it, all the lady says is that she's mourning her dead husband.

I usually talk to her after I finish the Nashkel quest. I talk to her without the ring and then again with the ring and it works for me...

Actually it doesn't matter if you have the ring in your inventory. Just talk to her first to accept the mission and a second time to finish the mission (right after each other).

It seems something has gone wrong. I remember something similair going wrong with easytutu. Never found out what went wrong and if it was me, or that there was some error in the game.
Looking at the reaction from your game, I don't think you can fix it. One last thing you can try is cast alot of friends spells to get a really good charisma. You have to be a mage to do this though and I don't think it will work. Theory behind this is, that the reaction from the wife depends on npc reaction (two of the variables are charisma and reputation) yours is too low.

I think that it is the charisma of the person who talks to her that counts.
This happens in a few quests, so it is best to have a high charisma person doing all the talking. i.e. have Imoen for example as the leader and give her the nice cloak found(stolen) in Beregost.

I have just tested it (couldn't stand it to not know

). Charisma is
not involved. You probably did speak to her and said you wouldn't bother here anymore. After this she only mourns her husband. Bad news is, that I don't think there is you can do about it.
