Fury mode questions

I finished the game in normal mode and now want to try in Heart of Fury mode, but the chracters are a little boring now. Can I start a new party and still play HoF? I imagine that they would level-up really quickly?

Yes, you can create new party to HoF, but that isn't really recommended. You see, HoF has been created to be played by characters already completed the normal game, and thus it's very hard to play with level 1 party.

Your whole party will probably be slain by the very first goblin in matter of seconds, without taking smallest scratch.

If you really want to create totally new party to HoF, then you should use editors or cheats to level your party a bit, just to be able to survive.

Of course, I have heard that somebode has survived at least somewhat in HoF with level 1 -party, and has been leveled very fast. This is very, very hard though.

It is possible. hellish, but possible.

I soloed it with a sorcerer... but I can't say that it was delightful.

Basically it was something along the line of:

Magic Missle

Run Away!

Magic Missle

Run Away!

Lure the goblin to some fighters,

time it right,

then:

Magic Missle!

I think they give you somewhere between 3k or 8k XP.

It's been a while.

Yes, to play with low-level parties in HoF, the strategy goes very much like that... even with the full 6-char party.

It doesn't make sense for me that the same party should go through the story twice in a row, so I also prefer new characters.
You'll need a lot of patience at the start, but you'll catch up in levels very fast.
The goblins at the start are considered level 7 monsters and you'll get 3,600 XP for each of them if your average party level is lower than 4.
I used mainly summoning spells at the start and used quarterstaffs to do a little more damage to the goblins fighting the summons (if they only wouldn't last so short) , sometimes I used charm person. The fact that everyone can sneak in 3E also helped a bit.
When your cleric reaches level 5 you can summon skeltons who stay for a long time and the game isn't that hard any more.
One disadvantage is that you start without equipment or money, so you won't be able to buy the great weapons in the starting town.

If you don't want to spend a long time for the start you can import one of your previous characters who is able to summon skeletons and have him help your party until your cleric is level5. You can also keep or sell his items for a little starting money when you dismiss him.

Oh, here's something I remembered.

Wail of the Banshee. (Ironic, isn't it?)

Get it.

Learn it.

Use it.

Love it.

I've yet to see anyone survive it in HoF.

.

wail of banshee (L9) will help much in HOF - but only if you have high level arcane caster in your party (best is Sorc due to the high CHA boni) - only problem is:

you don't have a high level caster in a level 1 party! ;)

with a L1 party in HOF you don't have any chance in melee or against archers in Targos Docks - almost any attack will kill your PC with one strike and you will need statistically more then 50 rounds to kill a single goblin!

Your only chance is to hide & run (as your level doesn't affect your speed) and summon as many monster as possible (as you will also summon HOF-monsters)!

and don't believe anybody who says he killed a goblin archer / skeleton archer without summoning in HOF with a L1 party - maths says that he lies! ;)
