Uhm... has anyone made a list of all the items that are importable (the hard way - from a new game) into BG2 from BG1?

I know of at least 2:
A- Gold pantaloons (from FriendlyArmInn), they show up in containter with magic dagger.
B- Claw/Ring (buy at mage west of Bereghost), it shows up in the container that always holds a chromatic orb spell.

Just wondering... Was hoping someone had done a systematic test for them or something (I'm lazy).

1 - Golden Pantaloons - in the picture container where the +1 dagger is.

2 - Protector of the Second +2
- Mail of the Dead +2
- Plate Mail +1
- Missile Attraction +2
- Chain Mail +3
Loot from the leader of the Duegars; only one of the five listed above will appear, they are listed in preference, so if you have a Mail of the Dead +2 and a Plate Mail +1, the Mail of the Dead +2 will appear.

3 - Helm of Balduran
- The Claw of Kazgaroth
- The Horn of Kazgaroth
- Koveras' Ring of Protection
In the bookcase near the between the chest and the potplant - in Irenicus's room. Normally hold a Chromatic Orb scroll. Note: only one of them will apear, same as items listed under 2.

Thanks...

Don't think I would have ever thought to try the items one at a time.

I thought the cloak of Balduron also can be imported in. I also heard that other items will import in(girdle of gender change and others), but they do not appear in the starting dungeon. I heard they are scattered around Amn. Can anyone confirm or disprove this?

According to the program script for 'newgame' only the items I listed above are imported. I might be wrong though.

Or shove anything ya want on your characters inventory before you export in BG1 and then when you import in BG2, pause right before he screams in the intro.

Go to you inventory and deposit all the wonderous goodies of your past adventures on to the floor (anythign that remains gets wiped before you gain control). When the intro movie ends grab the stuff and viola! mithril chainmail +4 etc. :D .

btw. Its not a bug!Its a feature :D !

"If you started the game outfitted with everything from BG1, the first part of the game would be a total breeze.......why is that fun?"

Hmm... sort of agree with that, and thats why I was curious about the legitimate items (thats what I meant by "the hard way"). BUT... I do want to mention that if you are starting out with a character imported from Tales of the Sword Coast - then the point is void because the first part will be very easy anyway.

Take a TotSC bard for example: it would be level 10, get to choose one of the new kits, reselect its spells (up to fourth level), have tome-increased stats, and repicks skills. In other words it could get through the dungeon almost as fast as it can walk. Imoen will disarm any traps and the other characters are there just to hold junk. Letting the main character keep his initial items wouldn't make the walk-through any less fun. Just my opinion.

One thing I didn't understand is why they took many of them out completely (no place to re-aquire them). That is, they could of had various black-market thieves or monsters that carry BG1 items. Afterall, the items exist in the game mechanics - why not let them be used. Oh well...

By the way - I'm not sure but I think numbers 1 and 2 are linked. That is everytime I've brought in the gold pantaloons (and nothing else), I got no armor from the dwarfs. If I don't import the pantaloons, then mail of the dead shows up by default.

Also I was wondering if the Sword of Chaos had a replacement as well. Seems most of the other named items (helm of baulduran and mail of the dead) are variable. I thought at first it wouldn't be because its in a different area - but two factors make me wonder. First: the genie only refers to it as a weapon, never names it - even after you get it from him. Second: seems the Plane of Air is treated as a house or somesuch, so maybe it is still linked to the original newgame area enough for items to show up. Not actually found an item that replaced it yet though.
