I just installed a mod chip on my xbox (Xenium Gold 24K), and I followed the directions from different sites and I believe that I installed it correctly. The thing is that it doesn't work!

The reason that I think I installed it correctly is that the chip has four LED (Light Emitting Diodes) and they all should light when the gold pins are in the correct spot. I'm good there. Then when the chip is active one of the LEDs are suppose to go out; good there as well. So after I did that I reasembled the xbox and hooked it up and turned it on. I can see there is power to the console but nothing apears on the screen. The strange thing is when I turn it on it seems like it turns on, then off, then on, then off, and after the third time it stays on (screen still blank) and the green light around the eject button flashes from green to red, green to red, so on and so fourth.

Another thing I had a question about is that the dock where I connect the chip to the motherboard, there are 2 x 8 open holes to place the pins from the chip, but on the chip there are only 2 x 6 pins. Savvy? So it is like there are too many holes and three possibilities to place the chip. I thought it over and even if I try putting the chip in a different spot then it would only be in the way of the ribbon cable that is required to run the xbox. I am an IC (Internal Communications Electrician) with the USN and I am knowledgable with most electrical jargon. I am willing to trouble shoot this but I don't know where to go to get the info. If anyone can suggest something different (by way of personal experience) or any other means (by way of URL link) I would greatly appreciate it.

The mod chip I bought is totally legal. It's in the first paragraph of the discription and in the list under: SOFTWARE Xenium OS 2.0 Check it out!

Well at least you have a site that does prove it's not illegal. Wikipedia along with several other sites did say modding your Xbox with a chip is 100% illegal, but I guess in some cases, it's alright.

I heard a long time ago that modding your xbox is illegal, but I never understood why.

I mean IMHO I did buy the xbox and I did decide to open it to install a mod chip. Everything is considered my property, but how would that be illegal? Thanks for checking out the site. I thought for a sec you were going to report me and get me banned lol

Nah, no worries. They made it illegal, most likely because of the copywrite protection things and online stuff. Meaning, you could transfer files from a game to a blank CD on someone else's Xbox to give him a free game without really being caught that easily.

My thoughts at least, I don't doubt the possibility of pirating over an Xbox since it has online features.

Make sure your AV cables plugged in properly in the back of your xbox. If it flashes from green to orange, then it means your graphics (AV) cable isn't plugged in [properly]. If it flashes from green to red? Then, I've not a clue what that means. I bought an Xbox once from Gamestop (Used), and it's lights were half green and half red. The xbox worked fine, so I figured they (the previous owners) simply modified their xbox. But if the light is red for you, I don't know what to say. If it is orange, check your AV Cables. That's about it.

Thanks, but I made sure that everything was plugged in properly. It wasn't green-orange it was green-red. I've had the same problem before with the 1.0 version xbox when they first came out (green-red) but I turned it off then back on and it was back to normal.

I think I might have found out the problem. I'm sure it is the chip because I unplugged the chip and the xbox functions normal. I might have fried the chip when I first installed it by putting it in the wrong pins. I now know what pins to put it in, but I need a new chip to test the theory.

A guy on this other forum said he had the same problem. I'll have to try a new chip and hope for the best. Thanks for looking out.
