Recurring NWN problem... grafx?

Dell Dim 8200, Intel Pen 4 cpu 2.4 Gh, 512 meg RAM
ALL IN WONDER 9600 grafx card

When I first started playing NWN, I started running into this problem where the music would start to repeat itself and the graphics would jerk for about 5-10 seconds, then the music would continue for about 5 seconds, then the game would lock up, with a MSWin error message Window which I'm sure everyone is familiar with. Ten seconds later I'm dumped back into Windows. I could continue playing by rebooting, but the error came more and more frequently, finally corrupting the save files.

So, I upgraded my graphics card to the ATI All in Wonder card. I stripped the hard drive (for other reasons) reloaded NWN Diamond, and all was fine until the same problem recurred in Chapter 2 somewhere. This time, the MSReport came back about a known problem with the SB Live sound card, so I followed directions to update THOSE drivers. At first no success, because the install didn't see my sound card, but after two reboots it was able to install. I even dumbed down the grass graphics. I made it successfully through the rest of NWN.

I am now at the beginning of HotU, and the problem just occurred for the second time, with no response back from MS. The first time was during the graphic-intensive battle cut scene, but the second time, I was just leaving a magic shop (it was raining). Hopefully, someone can give me some insight before I take a vorpal blade and go all post office, but PLEASE don't tell me it was the graphics card!

Further Info...

I'm posting this as an update, since no one has responded.

The problem has recurred many times now, but most often when I walk into Waterdeep, at night, in the rain (doesn't it ever stop raining there?). So I'm suspecting graphics problem of some type. The last time it did this, I was exiting the Seer's chamber into what I assumed wold be the drow village. I bet its either raining there or there's a whole bunch of stuff going on.
