Ranger Tips?

Hey all, I'v beent hinking of making a ranger online and was wondering if anyone could give me some good tips for a ranger? Any good builds or multi classings? Is Arcane archer any usefull?
That depends mostly on the server you're playing on. If the monsters and other players can get that really high ab (say 88), I'd rather go with a shield and a longsword. Ranger/Shadow Dancer is pretty good in my opinion. Both classes uses dex, and the ranger would add HP, ab and feats to the Shadow dancer. And with the right items you'd probably be able to pick pocket everyone on the server
