Does this game run on Windows XP?

The title says it all.
I've been considering getting this for a while, but I'm not sure if I could run it on my current computer, knowing how old it is.
If it isn't meant for XP, are there any patches or versions of this game meant for XP?

Hi Galuf. I'm not sure if PT runs on XP, reason for this being I always have both Windows XP and 98 installed on my pc so I can avoid being in situations where older games don't work. I would suggest doing the same thing. It doesn't take that long and the advantages are considerable. Or, you could use "Run in compatibility mode" but most of the time I found that function completely useless.
As a side note, BG 1 and 2 run fine on Windows XP.

It's definitely possible, though I can't remember if I had to jump through hoops to get it to work.

I have XP Home installed and I've had no problems at all with PS:T. A friend of mind who also has XP had similar concerns, but like me he encountered no troubles running the game on his system.
No hoops, no problems, nothing!

I also played through the game on XP. It worked fine.

Thanks for your help, folks. I'm definitely looking forward to getting this game now, hopefully for Christmas.

It is an amazing game Galuf, I'm sure you'll really enjoy it.
For me, it is a close tie between PS:T and BG2 in terms of the best I've ever played.

My copy's not running, alas. I'm using XP Home with the latest service pack. The setup file runs for a second before stopping, though the executable remains an inactive task until I terminate it. Doing an msiexec /unregister etc doesn't do anything.
At least this isn't a Windows installer issue, since I tried starting up BG2 installation afterwards, and it worked fine. But I still wanted to play PS:T again, and this gripes me.

Perhaps it's the difference between the Pro and Home versions? I have pro and PS:T runs perfectly.

Might be, but I think DW runs XP Home, and she installed without problems. From what I've seen elsewhere on the Web last night, it appears almost arbitrarily among XP users. Very annoying, since this is one of my favorite games.
EDIT: I've received a "cure" from Tricky, which I've added to the end of the FAQ sticky.

What exactly happens when you try to run the install?

When we're talking about something as big as an OS, I don't think it's random...
Fable, what version of the game do you have? What about DW?
Galuf, what version do you have?
By version I mean rather the number of CDs. I believe that there is a four or so CD version and a two CD version. I have the latter.

As I wrote above, my problems were resolved. I suspect Galuf's were, as well, but you might send him a PM to be certain.

well nuthing at all. I doucle click, the hourglass icons appears for few seconds and that's it. I tried to explore the cd, open setup.exe, run it on win95/98 compatibility mode and also the "-lgntforce" trick on the launch command butnothing works.
I have the 4 cd version, unpatched since I can't even install the game... On windows XP SP2 pro edition I guess. I had problems installing BG1 but I figured that out with a windows fixpack made for sp2. But PS:T still doesn't want to be installed.
