The Power of Magic

I've never, until now, bothered much with Destructive Magic in this game. Instead, I've mostly relied on bows and blades.
But, I decided to major in Destructive Magic with my Argonian Mage/Fighter...and I have to confess... I'm blown away, I never realised some of those spell combinations could be quite *that* lethal!
I know that many Daedra and others are largely immune to magic, but even so... for humanoid enemies.. ouch!
So, the purpose of this thread is to describe some of your nastiest spell combinations.
Note: I'm talking specifically about custom spells that you have made.
I looked around to see if there has been a thread like this, but if there has been it was a long time ago, because I checked quite a ways back. So hopefully there's not too much repetition here.
So far my most lethal spell combination is "Elemental Embrace."
*5 points weakness to poison over 5 seconds
*5 points poison over 5 seconds
*5 points shock damage over 5 seconds
*5 points cold damage over 5 seconds.
Since this character is also a fighter wearing heavy and medium armor, I made the spell "On Touch," since getting up close is not overly problematic.
One application seems to stop most humanoids and creatures (excluding Daedra) dead in their tracks, literally!

I happen to be somewhat of a master of destruction...best spell would be...ICBM (unorrigional, I know, but accurate)
fire damage 100 area, 100 damage, 100 duration
shock damage 100 area, 100 damage, 100 duration
cold damage 25 area, 100 damage 100 duration
poison damage 100 area, 100 damage, 100 duration
As you say, stops everything "dead" in its tracks. Also takes a lot of magicka.

How much mana that spell takes? And what the chance of success to cast it? It sounds quite powerfull but I believe these factors may lower it's power
As to my own "uber spell", I used spells with 200 fire damage with duration of 4. Powerfull enough to kill most enemies coming in my way...

It takes all my magicka and it has a chance of about five.

So, basically it's quite useless... at least IMO. Not that it would do well damage, but the chance is just too low comparing that it takes all your damage to cast it once... too risky IMO...

Quite true, it is useless, unless you have a very high sneak...and get very lucky...but I mostly use it for killing guards when they get on my nerves.

I'm more than sure that Dragon Wench was reffering to spells that you can use on a normal basis.
It's true, Destruction is well... destructive, hence the name. I like to add a paralyze in there, just in case. At later levels, as I play a mage type, I include Soul Trap, for an appropriate duration, to make my life easier, as I do a lot of enchanting, both constant effect and normal, so i need the soul gems for making new equipment and for recharging the pieces that need it.

Okay,
I should probably clarify here
* Console cheats do not count
*Ideally, please list spells that have
at least a 50% success rate if your character has 100 in Destruction and Willpower.

Ah, okay. My character has about 2000 points of intelligence and is like level 600 in destruction. I've been using the soultrap/skill booster a lot lately.:mischief:

That's a script put in the game so the bug testers could test the game for bugs. It counts as a cheat.

Interesting, I didn't realise that. Though, then again, I'm construction set challenged and therefore don't mod, so I wouldn't know
I'm not a purist, as such, but I try to avoid making the game easier than it already is, so I never use the console for cheating, just fixing problems.
Regarding nasty spells, I've been experimenting with trying to obtain a combined poison and paralyse spell, but either the game doesn't really allow it for balance reasons (the chance of a successful cast always seems very low) or my Illusion skill is not high enough yet.
Has anyone ever had any luck with this combo?

im not sure if you would include this but i prefer to use bound battle axe(or bound axe or something) and paralyze on touch for 5 seconds(long enough to kill most enemies)

I figured it out by looking at some spells put in the game by mods. They had completely different effects to what they did. I tried making my own spell with the same effects and it did the the same as the spell the mod placed in the game. Soul trap was used because Bethasda didn't expect any one to cast soul trap x feet for x seconds. This may not be definate but more of a theory.

Have just started playing the game....can already see that this will be a game that I will play for a long time....used to be BG and BGII

plus all the mods...played on those for years....unofficial son-in-law bought this one and just watching him, made me want it...so when he went out and bought the next one, Oblivion for his xbox....yippee, I got his copy of Morrowind...am just now at a level to play around with spells and enchanting...used soul trap with Nordic Broadsword...very interesting...as for magic spells, tried Dragon Wench's suggestions(by the way I also tend to not use cheats in my games)

....wow...thanks for the hints...oh well back to the game...will be playing Morrowind for months....now I'm just jealous of unofficial son-in-laws Oblivion....oh well cannot have everything....

First off. don't be jealous of Oblivion

By many accounts I've heard, it's not even half the game that Morrowind is. I can't play Oblivion on my present machine, but even when so, what I'm really looking forward to is the day I can get a new computer so that I can just play Morrowind without my FPS slowing to a crawl... I use a lot of mods for Morrowind, and they tend to slow me down quite a lot
If you are using the XBox version of Morrowind, you may find yourself buying the game for PC... just for the thousands of excellent player-made mods available.
And just so I don't derail my own thread...
Here's another nice spell combo if your Destruction and Willpower are still somewhat low:
Elemental Blast
3 points fire damage over 3 seconds
3 points frost damage over 3 seconds
3 points shock damage over 3 seconds
Casts on Target. You can also experiment with the area it covers, 3 to 5 feet works quite well. This spell is nice to basically take down enemy HP, so by the time they reach you they're a lot less healthy

My best spell would have to be
Suffer
Posion 1 point for 60 seconds
Fire 1 point for 60 seconds
Thunder 1 point for 60 seconds
Of course I never got round to ACTUALLY killing someone with it. For some reason their health wouldn't go down, so I had to beat them to a pulp with Daedric Dagger.

maybe you should try putting less time and more damage into it, they would die alot faster that way...
