Console setup help

I've been searching for the answer to this on the forums but everyone already seems to know, so gotta ask ...

How to set up the in-game console for cheat commands?

I've got patches 1&2 plus the latest circle of 8 mod (ver 5) and am playing in-mod. I tried adding "-console" to the .exe for the front end, but that doesn't seem to work.

Many thanks for your help. This has been an extremely helpful forum already.

Console commands

The game console can be accessed in game by pressing *Shift* + ~. Many of the various commands can be found on this forum or at Co8.

Thanks Sokaijin. I should have been clearer w/ my question. Nothing happens when I enter the tilde (I've used the console before on other games like Vampire and Neverwinter so I've had a few examples of what *should* happen), and I'm wondering if I need to add anything to the game startup command line or elsewhere to enable it. I get the impression from all the posts that Co8 ver 5 automatically enables the console, but for some reason it doesn't come up in my game. Have I left something out or inadvertently changed the setup?

I've never had to do anything as far set-up to activate the console. I'm not running 5.0.0, yet. Although I very highly doubt Co8 did anything to the console, it's not impossible, I guess. Best to ask over there, especially in regards to anything they've done, modding-wise, to ToEE.
I wish I could be more helpful than just saying " I've never had a problem opening the console."

I doubt this is your problem, but it's worth making sure:

Sometimes you really have to hold the button down for a second or two before the console will come up. Sometimes it takes several tries. At least for me. Not sure why. Patch 2 should have installed the console. Co8 should not have done anything to it. If holding it down doesn't help, asking the co8 guys couldn't hurt, but I imagine you'll get at least one suggestion there. And that's this:

Reinstall. It's possible, for whatever reason, patch 2 didn't install or didn't install fully.

It could also just be that your localised keyboard differs from the USA keyboard.

E.G. for me to open the console (in th UK) I hold shift, then press ¬ then release the shift button.

I suggest you try using shift and the button directly below the Esc button on your keyboard.

Thanks guys - great suggestions.

I've tried reinstalling Patch 2 from the TOEE root directory - no effect.

Tested the tilde in Word - works fine, so no problems with my keyboard (thought maybe my shift key wasn't working or else I was having localization problems, as suggested. I am running a Japanese version of XP but have English input and have had no problems with using the tilde in previous years in Vampire and Neverwinter).

Will try reinstalling the Co8 5 patch.

I am having the same problem as ziplock

The problems Ziplock is having are affecting me too. I have searched for any info on mod pack 5.0.0 at Co8 and they have nothing about being/not being able to open the console. they still protest the use of patch 3 but say that if we keep installing patch 2 it should work

I have the same patches that you have and I don´t have a problem with the console. For me, in European keyboards, to open the console I press Shift and \ - it´s the key in the left side of the "1" key. It works perfectly - I try not to use it, cause I wish to stay "pure", but sometimes, when i need just a little more cooper to buy that item I wish to have, well....

Best regards,
