Hey all,

New poster here. Anyways, I know there’s already a similar thread to this one, but I wanted to ask again anyway just in case some new stuff would be added:

Aside from the stuff listed on Wikipedia, what other stuff (preferably novels) helped influence PS:T? Also, what novels are similar to PS: T? They don’t have to be particularly “similar”, I’m just looking for some new reading material and would like to read some stuff that gave off the same “vibe” as the game. Nothing TOO deep or philosophical please; like everything in the Ender Saga after Ender’s Game (the best sci-fi book I’ve ever read) by Orson Scott Card. Imho it got draggy after Ender’s Game. Anyways, back on topic; Any suggestions you guys give will be much appreciated.

If you're interested in the Blood Wars, there's a trilogy out: Blood Hostages, Abyssal Warriors, and Planar Powers. You can get all three at Amazon.

Also if you like D&D, the Planescape universe is one of the campaigns available to play. There's probably a lot of supplemental material about the world, but it's not in novel form; it's just like a textbook I'd assume.

Oh, okay. Thanks for the reply Z. I’d already considered that trilogy but their availability on amazon is pretty low. Also, I’m aware of the various Planescape AD&D rulebooks/sourcebooks, etc. but they’re not really what I’m looking for, so I guess this is a dead end 1 question though, can you recommend any novels (regardless of genre) that reminded you of PS: T or, failing that, were in your opinion just as good/better?

I mean, I've read Dragonlance and Forgotten Realms stuff, but PS:T is quite a unique beast. I suppose that's what made the game so great; it's definitely got a story like no other (at least none that I've ever read or heard of).

What sort of vibe exactly are you looking for? I'm not quite sure what the specifics of what you're looking for are.

The few Dragonlance books I’ve read, I found dull and I’m an avid reader of FR novels so I can agree with you in that it has nothing like PS:T. I guess the vibe I’m looking for is the kind of “ominous mystery” in a fantasy setting. Kind of like the vibe you get from Neil Gaiman’s Neverwhere.

I'm sorry, I can't really help you, I haven't found anything like it really. The last fantasy stuff I read was the War of the Spider Queen, which was great, but not really Torment-like.

It's based in the cage (Sigil) and involves the Lady of Pain and a character very similar to TNO.

So no one has simply written a book about their game? Most of the book is already written and I've thought of doing so for several games. The problem is that outside the game text (without the visuals) I'd be a boring author.

Is there a Fan Fiction thread?

Just look at the forums on the board for the answer to that one.

As for fanfiction, it usually follows whatever is currently popular. But if you want to add PS:T fanfiction, you are certainly welcome to do so, provided it's genuinely yours, and fits within Buck Satan's site rules. Have fun.

If you're looking into fantasy that's into the whole bit where the consciousness of the inhabitants violently affects reality. (IMO Consenseus reality is *the* Truth of PS:T) you might want to look into the Eternal Champion series by Michael Moorcock.
