There is a door north inside the first floor of the shadow thieves, how do you get into it?...any responses would be greatly appreciated....thanks

You pay off Gaelan Bayle & get the "Shadow Thief Cellar Key".

Of course, you could use the cheat code to give this to yourself. I have not tested whether doing that brings the dialog set you expect of Aran Linvail, because the "huge sum" of money is actually easily stealable in Athkatla, and is fairly easy to acumulate.
