If you killed him in BG1, will he attack you when you meet him in BG2? Do you have choices?

T'was a long time since I last played BG2, but i remember the encounter with Drizzt (even though I don't know him from BG1 because I haven't played it) as one of the most interesting parts of the game. You meet him while traveling between places, he is with his party (very cool party) and you can kill him if you like or just talk to him. That's the first and last time you see him in BG2.

If you import the character that killed him from BG1, he will be hostil.

Otherwise you can say that you killed him, which will initiate a fight, talk to him and leave or sdk him to help you with Bhodi.

Well, if you ask for his help with Bhodi you'll see him in the lair as well.

Really??? Dang, sorry for misleading then. What does he say then when you see him that other time? Spoil it for me please, I can't go back to BG2 just for that.

If you have named your character "Drizzt" or "Drizzt Do'Urden", Drizzt will say the following:

DRIZZT: You there! Finally we meet... I've had enough of you wandering about pretending to be me! Earn your own reputation... my name is my own!! My name is Drizzt Do'Urden, once of Menzoberranzan and now of Ten Towns... and you are an imposter!!

Then he will attack you.

If your character was carrying one of Drizzt's items when you imported your character, the game assumes that you killed Drizzt in BG1, and Drizzt will say the following:

DRIZZT: You there! I recognize you! You are the scoundrel that attacked me for no good reason near Baldur's Gate and made off with my equipment! Know you that I am Drizzt Do'Urden, and that I have done nothing in the surface lands but fight against evil that I see... including bandits such as yourself!

KELDORN: You did such a thing, <CHARNAME>? This man is well-known as a hero across the Realms... what were you thinking? Do you never stop to consider your actions?

JAHEIRA: Drow roaming the surface, even the most noble, should expect an occasional misunderstanding. I am sure this can be worked out, <CHARNAME>... I suggest you try.

ANOMEN: Hmph. I have never heard of this drow, and after our experience in the Underdark, I would be surprised to encounter any dark elf who wasn't worth sending directly to Hell.

VICONIA: As a drow on the surface, he should expect such treatment. If I tracked down every rivvin who has wronged me, I would end up doing little else.

DRIZZT: It took me a long time to track down my scimitars, and an equally long time to track down you... and now I have done so.

BRUENOR: Come, now, Drizz't... if this be the dire bandit who jumped ye while ye fought the gnolls, then let us dispatch <PRO_HIMHER> and be back to the Ten Towns where we be truly needed.

EDWIN: A bold statement, if you can back it up. But we've power to spare, here, fools! (A fireball down the dwarf's gullet should instill some respect, I think!)

KORGAN: Ye'll be dispatching nothing. If ye make one hostile move, ye're getting an axe in yer belly, I swear.

CATTIE BRIE: Careful, Drizzt... <PRO_HESHE> looks more powerful than ye remember, perhaps. Ye wouldn't want to be startin' something ye cannot finish.

DRIZZT: Do not worry, Cattie-Brie, I did not bring you here to join me in vengeance... though this <PRO_RACE> may deserve such. I came seeking a simple answer.

At this point, you basically have five options.

OPTION #1:

DRIZZT: Why did you attack me, <PRO_RACE>? Are you truly a simple bandit, greedy and nothing more? If that is the case, I shall be disappointed.

MAIN CHARACTER: Then prepare to be disappointed, because I did not give up those lovely weapons of yours voluntarily... and I am pleased to see them once again! --OR-- I killed you because I wanted to, fool, and I intend to do so again!

BRUENOR: See?! I told ye, Drizzt... this be scum an' nothing more! Let us lance the boil where <PRO_HESHE> stands!

DRIZZT: Very well. I gave you your chance, whoever you are. It is obvious that you are the contemptable sort that nothing but death will suffice... so be it.

VICONIA: It shall feel good to test my strength against this one... I have heard of his prowess. Come, let us achieve glory this day!

MINSC: Another drow who speaks strange words! Even Boo bristles at his obvious lies! If <CHARNAME> fights, than so does Minsc! Prepare for liberal butt-kickings!!

MAZZY: I... have not heard of this drow, nor his supposed good deeds. I pray that you are correct in your assessment of him, <CHARNAME>, drow or no drow...

JAHEIRA: This Drow is well respected by the Harpers, <CHARNAME>. I will not assist you fight him. I will return to Athkatla; consider your idiocy before we speak again. (She leaves the area.)

KELDORN: This man is a ranger and a being of worth, <CHARNAME>! A hero that I will not aid you in destroying! I stand against you in this! (He attacks you.)

Drizzt then summons Guenhwyvar and his party attacks you.

OPTION #2a:

DRIZZT: Why did you attack me, <PRO_RACE>? Are you truly a simple bandit, greedy and nothing more? If that is the case, I shall be disappointed.

MAIN CHARACTER: I attacked you because you are drow, and I didn't want to wait for you to attack me once you were done with the gnolls.

DRIZZT: Ah, the legacy of the Drow follows me. Fair enough. I tell you, however, that I am not like other Drow. You attacked without reason; I had no quarrel with you.

WULFGAR: Aye, Drizzt Do'Urden is an honorable warrior and has done many great things. He is also our friend. You quarrel with him, you quarrel with us.

REGIS: Not all things are so absolute, good <PRO_MANWOMAN>. In my days, I've seen enough strangeness to make a halfling's fur fall right off his feet!

DRIZZT: Wulfgar and Regis are friends, and they mean well. But they are right in that I fight for what is right and good. Can you claim the same, <PRO_RACE>?

MAIN CHARACTER: I can. I also fight for what is right.

(If your character isn't evil, Drizzt will believe you. If your character is evil, he will call you a liar. See option 2b.)

DRIZZT: That is good. I sense no real deception from you. Perhaps this has been a misunderstanding, after all, and nothing more. Tell me then, <PRO_RACE>, that there is no quarrel between us; that I can let you live without worrying you will prey on others or seek another fight with me. Tell me that, <PRO_RACE>, and I shall be content. What do you say?

MAIN CHARACTER: There is no quarrel between us, drow. I apologize for what happened the last time, and you needn't fear for me performing the deed on others.

DRIZZT: Fair enough. I am content that there is no need for violence between us and that I have no cause to protect the welfare of others from you. My friends and I shall return to the Ten Towns, now, and I wish you safe travels as you continue your journey. Perhaps we shall meet again one day.

At that point, you can say goodbye to him, or you can ask him to assist you with the vampires. If your Reputation is over 7. he will listen your proposal. If your Reputation is lower than 8, he will say:

DRIZZT: There is no proposal you might have, <PRO_RACE>, that I would be interested in hearing. If you were more trustworthy, perhaps... but not today.

Then his party leaves the area.

OPTION #2b:

DRIZZT: Wulfgar and Regis are friends, and they mean well. But they are right in that I fight for what is right and good. Can you claim the same, <PRO_RACE>?

MAIN CHARACTER: I can. I also fight for what is right.

DRIZZT: (if your character is evil) You are a liar. I have known evil enough to see it in others. That you actually believe you are in the right disturbs me more than anything else, I think.

WULFGAR: Then I be thinking we have little choice, Drizzt. Such a <PRO_MANWOMAN> we cannot be allowin' to run free... who knows what horrid acts <PRO_HESHE> has committed on others?

DRIZZT: Perhaps you are right. Let us end this now, then.

Then his party attacks you. If Viconia, Minsc, Mazzy, Jaheira, or Keldorn are in your party, see their comments above.

OPTION #3:

DRIZZT: Wulfgar and Regis are friends, and they mean well. But they are right in that I fight for what is right and good. Can you claim the same, <PRO_RACE>?

MAIN CHARACTER: No, not really. I have no intention of making such a claim about myself.

DRIZZT: Of course not, since there is great evil in your heart, <PRO_MANWOMAN>. I have seen enough to recognize it in others... and I see it in you. But I am not here to exact vengeance. I do, however, think that you need to be taught a lesson... the exact nature of which, however, puzzles me.

REGIS: Make <PRO_HIMHER> get down on <PRO_HISHER> knees, Drizzt... make <PRO_HIMHER> apologize! Make <PRO_HIMHER> say <PRO_HESHE>'s sorry!

DRIZZT: Ha... fair enough, Regis. Perhaps you are right. If this evil <PRO_MANWOMAN> can swallow <PRO_HISHER> pride enough to apologize on <PRO_HISHER> knees, then I shall be satisfied.

HAER'DALIS: On <PRO_HISHER> knees? That would be a pretty sight to see, should it ever come to pass. I doubt I've ever seen my raven swallow crow.

ANOMEN: Hah! <CHARNAME> will get on <PRO_HISHER> knees for no one! You've a nerve, even thinking of asking <PRO_HIMHER> to do such!

BRUENOR: Har! I likes it, I does! You there, <PRO_RACE>... I suggest ye gets down on yer knees quickly and spill yer apology to our friend, Drizzt. Come, now... I won't give ye long to do it.

MAIN CHARACTER: (down on knees) Very well, if that's how it must be. I apologize to you, Drizzt Do'Urden... for my mistake in attacking you and taking your equipment. I apologize sincerely.

BRUENOR: 'And I apologize fer bein' an evil worm, an' I promise not to waylay innocent travelers any more...'

MAIN CHARACTER: Yes, yes, that. What the dwarf said.

DRIZZT: It is enough for me. Bruenor, my friend, you may back away from the <PRO_MANWOMAN>. So, our dealings are done then. Continue your travels, <PRO_RACE>, and I shall return to the Ten Towns. If I hear any more of you, however, we shall meet again. Come, then, my friends. Let us be off.

At that point, you can ask him to assist you with the vampires or you can say, "You're not getting away that easy! I've just decided it's time for you and your self-righteous friends to die!" and start a fight with him (even after you apologized like a worm).

OPTION #4:

DRIZZT: Why did you attack me, <PRO_RACE>? Are you truly a simple bandit, greedy and nothing more? If that is the case, I shall be disappointed.

MAIN CHARACTER: I did kill you, and I'll not explain myself further. Leave now and you'll leave this place alive.

WULFGAR: Eh? The <PRO_RACE> is threatening us? Do you think <PRO_HESHE> is serious?

BRUENOR: It seems that be the way of it, Wulfgar me boy. Hah! We've faced hell-spawn an' worse in our time... perhaps yer git, here, needs a come-uppance at our hands, Drizzt.

DRIZZT: Indeed. This time, <PRO_RACE>, I am neither alone nor preoccupied by a battle with gnolls. Let us see where a fair battle takes you!

Then his party attacks you. If Viconia, Minsc, Mazzy, Jaheira, or Keldorn are in your party, see their comments above.

OPTION #5:

DRIZZT: Why did you attack me, <PRO_RACE>? Are you truly a simple bandit, greedy and nothing more? If that is the case, I shall be disappointed.

MAIN CHARACTER: That was a long time ago, and I've changed since then. Perhaps my assault on you was in error.

DRIZZT: Perhaps. I believe people can change... perhaps you have. I have made mistakes in my life, but always have I attempted to make up for them.

What I am wondering is this: If you don't have the weapons with you. Will he still be hostile? I.e. can you leave them in a chest and pick them up later?
Has anyone tried this? Also does it make any difference if you killed him or pickpocketed him?

If you import your character, the game detects whether you have any of Drizzt's items. If you have his items, there's only one place where you could have gotten them. The game can't tell whether you pickpocketed Drizzt or killed him (there isn't any way to tell the difference), so the game makes things simple and assumes that you killed Drizzt in BG1. Once the game starts, it doesn't matter what you do with the items; a global variable is set and that's what triggers Drizzt's reaction.

By the way, Drizzt is not "hostile" when you meet him in BG2 if you have his items. As you can see in the dialogues, all he wants to do is ask you why you attacked him in BG1. It doesn't have to be a violent encounter unless you really want to kill him again, which technically makes you the hostile one, not him. :)

Now you're making me feel bad about killing him.

Doesn't that only happen when you have a low reputation?

It happens if you're playing an elf named Drizzt or Drizzt Do'Urden and your Reputation is less than 12. I guess he doesn't mind you pretending to be him as long as you do a lot of good deeds. :)

There is no legal way to avoid this except by having a ferret familiar pickpocket you clean of all your items or storing them on a character that you can remove from the party.

There's an Ease of Use mod that doesn't allow Harkle to show up, but that's flat out cheating IMO.

I don't use mods but still, even if you did keep the weapons and armor, you can get better items before even advancing to Chapter three. They were great items in BG1 but in BGII, eh.

As Harkle being scripted to show up and just rob you blind without you being able to do anything about it is a blatant cheat in itself, I'd consider the EoU mod to be counter cheating in that instance.

However I agree with Crenshinibon, by the time this happens the items hav become virtually useless anyway. Even so I still found it extremely aggravating.

You're right, but when I was playing Drizzt, I wanted to continue wearing his armour even if there was better armour available, just as if playing Balduran I would want his armour etc. particularly his butter knife.
