I searched and couldn't find it,so I went to malada just because and found an ayleid carving. When I exit Malada Claude Maric and gang demand the carving.I gave it to them and got a journal entry to check with umbacano in the imperial city all he wants are the ten statues so I got them and gave them to him. He still will not hit on the carving. Did miss something or is this not a real quest. The journal entry is under "Nothing you can possess"

It's a real quest, spoiler but normally it doesn't start until after Umbacano has all 10 statues. You could try stealing the carving back from Maric and see if Umbacano will talk to you then.
