any suggestions for dual-classing

1. monk (should it be dualed? can it even work with anything?)

2. wild mage (just wondering)

3. swashbuckler and/or blade (can they dual each other? any ideas on that?)

4. kensei (... i want something asian but less... samarai and ninja stuff... any ideas?)

it doesnt matter if the class is the lesser level or greater.

The monk, blade and wild mage classes cannot be dual legally within the game.

A Swashbucler/Cleric or a Swashbucler/Fighter are powerful class mixes, depending on when you decide to dual class them.

A Kensai can only be dual classed to a thief or a mage. If you're looking for something "oriental" for the purpose of roleplaying maybe a mix between a Kensai and a thief, for a "maximum backstab" which would be a damaging attack indeed.

Wild Mages can be dualled if you install one of the components of G3's BGII Tweak Pack.

I was assuming that he was talking about an umodded game.

Besides, Wild Mages are cheesy enough as it is.

yea, i dont mod unless its more bug-fix or minor concept rule change, but i wont change class rules,

if cant dual, there must be reason,

but anyway, those ideas will work, ty for input.

sorry for double post, but i have new questions:

can you dual class 2 kits of the same class?
ex. assassin and swash?

multi class DOES NOT apply kits right?

(i cant find where it says that in the manual... i THOUGHT i read something about it.)

also, can someone explain armor class?
AC in some character says +# as a bonus.. but if i read right.. isnt some also -# as a "bonus"?
whats the deal there?

Classes of the same kits can't be dual classed.

Multiclassed characters cannot have kits nor can they be dual classed.

The lower the Armor Class the better. Some items will add armor class, thus making you weaker.

but what about some stuff like a bonus from a class is +1 ac bonus...
isnt that NOT an advantage bonus?

(unless higher ac means taking less damage but getting hit more, while the lower ac means taking more damage if hit but you get hit less...?)

Just use the item. If your AC becomes lower, it's good.

their not on items, their on the descriptions of the kits on this class...

ex. swashbuckler say +1 ac bonus

kensei say -2 ac on creation...

plus... minus... eh?

also, can kit of one class dual a kit of ANOTHER class?

A kit of one class cannot dual class to a kit of another class.

For the Swashbuckler, I think that was just a typo.

View it as -1.

can a non-kit class ex. basic fighter dual into a kit class?

or dualing must be a non-kit class, reguardless of what you started in, kit class or another non-kit ?

Kensai/mage and kensai/thief have been two of the most popular dual classes.

no i mean that if i start out as a fighter, can i dual to a kit?

or must i start out as a kit, and dual a regular fighter...

i have the class and combos in mind, good/popular only to be found out the hard way, so thats not a problem, but i need to know what to start as... depending on which of the above it follows.

The latter.

In order to have a kit in any of your combinations, you must first start with that kit.

You can't ever dual class into a kit.

dam...

so now im either going for
BLADE, no dual possible of course

or

ASSASSIN---DUAL FIGHTER
(break away from kensei-theif)

try something different...

but... not sure what lv. to stop assassin... and start fighter..

any place with detailed lv. up benefits of these classes?
or is the one on this site as good as it gets?

or maybe a stalker dual fighter. .. hum?

A Blade is a total powerhouse. Definately one of my most favorite classes.

An Assassin/Fighter is a good build as you have a Backstab multiplier of 7 and a good THAC0. You should dual class at level 21, that's what I did at least. By the time you hit the cap, if you dual class at level 21, you should be a 21 Assassin/ 30 Fighter.

The Stalker/Fighter dual class is not possible.

HP sauce

I find that I tend to dual from a fighter, because that way I have more HP - mages are too weak in HP and so I get to decent HP as a fighter - using points in skills that work with a mage too (eg staff) and then dual to mage. when you have amassed 1.7 million XP or whatever, the first 100k or so are insignificant. I then treat the dualled character as simply an enhanced mage who has decent HP and better combat stats.

my most recent character had got to lvl 9 as fighter and is about lvl 13 or so as a mage. that's a lot more HP than he'd have had and IMO worth the XP sacrifice.

I recently dualled to a thief and really enjoy setting traps - it is the most fun after sneaking - set traps, backstab, be chased into traps, run away hide repeat.

how did you figure out when to change to fighter? in other words, how did you know when backstab =7 and stuff?

i look on the site and they dont tell me backstab increase.... by levels or intervals ...

manual i assume continues that every 4 levels backstab increases?

2 @ 1-4
3 @ 5-8
4 @ 9-12
5 @ 13-16
6 @ 17-20
7 @ 21-24
8 @ 25-28
9 @ 29-32
10 @ 33-36
11 @ 37-40

(and max level for fighter and thief is 40...)

so ... my second question from this is how did you get 21 thief and 30 fighter total?
am i not counting something in? there is 11 levels more?

Celacena, in the case of dual classing to certain kits, like an Assassin or a Swashbuckler, you can't start with a fighter. You have to start with a kit. I completely disagree in you saying that the first 100,000 experience is insignificant. It matters a while lot. It's a great part of dual classing. A fighter mage really isn't that great. You have to build on character's weaknesses to make them stronge, like in the famous Kensai/Mage build.

Probe:

That's incorrect.

The maximum a backstab can go for a normal thief is x5 and x7 for an assassin.

Well, I've played the game with an Assassin before, that was my class choice on my second playthrough all those years ago. I tend to keep a reccord, for all of Black Isle's games the levels during which I should dual class, depending on what buld I want.

If I am correct, the experience cap is at 8,000,000. You do not need to have a level sum of some kind but rather the total experience of your classes must not exceed eight million. I view it, at certain times that level some classes further is a waste of experience., and I hate to waste experience for nothing. So, as I can get all of the experience I need by doing quests and fighting instead of disarming traps and lockpicking, I put all of my points into stealth and set traps. I waited until I hit level 21 for the x7 multiplier, and that was all I needed from that class. What is the purpose of continuing that class? Nothing really, not for me. By looking at the character screen, you would see that the character was severely lacking in THAC0 and in speed, so that is why I decided to take up a role of a fighter. The difficult part is, when you're more or less far in the game, it's a challenge to start over at level one. However, I'm capable of reaching somewhere over 34 with a bard (don't remember the XP equivalent nor did I try to get the maximum experience possible) before giving the money to either side. So, I got to 21 before entering Chapter 3 and managed to get a good amount of fighter levels, so after paying up I had a short while left before I could use my Assassin skills as well. By the time I reached ToB I was all maxed out.
