Walkthrough - Do You Need It? (SPOILER)

So, I started playing NWN2 yesterday. Got to a point, and decided to start writing a walkthrough for it. I figure GB will eventually get some data on up their website, but until then, feel free to use this. DO NOT POST THIS ANYWHERE ELSE PLEASE. I took the time to do this, and feel that I deserve credit for it. So, um, yeah, just dont steal mah work. It's not very far into the game, as I just started it today. In fact, I stopped working on it, but still kept playing as in order to type the walkthrough, and play at the same time, I need to keep it in windowed mode, or keep alt+tabbing out. Either way, it's a hassle. I created a save game where I stopped the walkthrough so I can go back and work on it some more later. So far, it's pretty much the first tutorial area, I suppose that's what you'd call it.

Secondly, I wrote it as I played. I very well may have missed something, or gotten something wrong whilst typing. Dont steal my breakfast over it. If you find something I Missed, or left out, send me a pm and I"ll fix it.

Lastly, I cant seem to get this freaking thing to format properly, so, it's all ran on together. Sorta difficult to read. Sorry for that. Alternately you can simply get the .txt from the attachment.

So, here it goes.

Neverwinter Nights 2 Walkthrough: BY m0rb1d

Tutorial:

Start out by watching the cutscene between you and your foster father. Once it is over, you will have a quest to get some furs from a chest. Simple enough. Find the nearbye chest and rob the furs. Your foster father will then tell you trade them to a merchant, Galen I think it was, and to get a bow with the money you get from the furs.

West Harbor:

Items Gained:
Scroll: Lesser Dispel
Scroll: Ghostly Visage
Scroll: Summon Creature II
10 Gold
Pork Jerky
Harvest Cup
Harvest Cloak

Quests:
BONUS QUEST: A Man and His Pig
The Harvest Brawl
The Archery Competition
The Tourney of Talent
The Knaves Challenge
The Fur Trade

Go down the path until you meet your friends, and exhaust the dialogue. You are given some chances to be a dick so, feel free to make use of them, if that's the sort of character you will be playing. I personally find it more appealing to play the good side of things, but, that's just me.
You should now have the quest *High Harvest Fair*. So, take your ass over the bridge, and speak to Georg ( pronounced gay-org: Funny **** eh? ) to get the ball rolling. YOu can find out about the 4 differen't events you'll have to win ( well, 3 out of 4, but they are so easy I dont see how you can mess them up ). You can also learn about some others things. Be sure to exhaust every dialogue option at every point through the game, or I'll personally come over and pimp slap your poodle. You'll have to speak to him twice to get all of the options done however.
Righty-0. Now you should have the following quests in edition to High Harvest Fair.
1. The Harvest Brawl.
2. The Archery Competition.
3. The Trourney of Talent.
4. The Knaves Challenge.
5. The Fur Trade.
First things first, continue along the path until you come to Lazlo BUckman.Speaking with him will give some mildy funny dialogue about some ale, and a female swinging her hips around or something like that. That's about it as far as I know. On the other side of the road you will find Brother Merring. He is who you need to speak to in order to start The Harvest Brawl. He'll tell you to grab some wooden skull beaters from the barrel and have a hoe down on a dummy. So, do it. Then, speak to him again. You'll be put into the ring with some bumbling idiots. Dispose of them and then you will be speaking to Brother Merring again. Once he is done yapping, go speak to Wyl who is right next to Merring to start the fight. You can bet on the fight if you want, but, as I said before, I prefer the good way about things, and bettings is not allowed for the fighters. So, do so at your own risk. Also, if you choose the option about "It's against the rules" then you get influence +5 with Bevil ( your fighter follower. ).
Right then, now continue on the path once more until you come to Galen the Merchant on the right side of the road. Trade your furs, and get the bow at this time. THe furs sell for 160g and you get the bow for 150g, so, you make off with a 10g profit, as Daegun lets you get it later as your "allowance" for the season.
Next, cross the road and speak to Retta Starling to start the Talent Competition. This is for the quest "The Tourny of Talent". SO, once your in there, press "f" to brin gup the Quickcast bar. Select Summon Creature 1 and use it on the ground in front of you. Next select enlarge person and use it on Bevil. Lastly, use acid splash on the barrel next to you to win the talent show. You will recieve LESSER DISPEL, SUMMON CREATURE II, AND GHOSTLY VISAGE SCROLLS FOR WINNING.
Afterwards you are warped out of the ring and Orlen will strike up a conversation with you. He wants you to go and check out a pig that he believes is rather large, and perhaps, magicked in some way. Choose to do it or not, but this guide will be doing most every quest that I find along the way. So, just do it, ok? It's quick. And by the by, this is a BONUS Quest, and will show up in your journal as Bonus Quest: A man and his hog. So, remember the swinging hips conversation with the mead seller? Take your ugly little self back to that area. Next to him, is Lewy Jons standing next to a monstrous pig. CLick on the pig, and use your dispel magic scroll you got for winnin the talent show.(Note* YOu can speak you Lewy first if you want, but unless you choose to let him pay you, and hence, gain evilness, you will end up using the scroll.) You will have to use Amie, if you do not have the ability to use the scroll yourself. Now, head back to Orlen to finish the quest. You will receive Pork Jerky for the quest.
Next, head down the road some more until you come to Daeghun on the right side holding a bow. Turn in your Fur Trade quest ( The bow ) and then do the archery competition. SImple enough, grab a cross bow outta the barrel, shoot a dummy, and then shoot at the ten bottles. BOth times I've done this part, I've gotten 9/10, so, dont feel too bad to fubar one. If you cannot use a bow, let Bevil do it. Ya wanker.
Now, cross the road, and speak to Tarmas to do the Knaves Challenge. If you are do not possess the ability to break locks, pickpockets, then you will have to find someone who can. You will have 3 options to choose from, 1. No, blah blah, 2. We'll have to look around, 3. One of these children perhaps. Choose option 3, and then speak to the midget right next to you for your pickpocketer to join the group. His name is Kipp btw. Speak to Tarmas again to get the clues about the knaves feathers scattered in places wobble weeble yippie..woah, lost myself there for a second. Anyway, just speak to him, and then use your common sense.
Now, turn yourself around and start heading back the way you came on the road. Passed Galen the merchant, you'll see a red glowing box. Switch to Kipp, and then go click on it to disarm it.It may take you a few trys, but after it's done, claim your blue feather. Keep going, a little ways passed Lazlo the mead dude, you'll see a chest. Pick the lock with Kipp and claim your white feather. Further down the road you'll see an NPC named the man in green or something like that. Use kipp to pick his pocket and claim your green feather. You will have to right click on the npc, and select sleight of hand to accomplish this. Next, take the feathers back to Tarmas the Gizzard Wizard.
Finally, take your self back to Georg ( Gay-Org ) to finish up the High Harvest Quest. Yippie. Now, you just need to go back to the stage ( passed the area where Tarmas was ) to get your hip hip hoorays.

Make sure to add a spoiler tag to your future threads that contain this please, as per the "Hey you!" thread above.

So, I got bored and went ahead and edit the maps so everyone would know where I was talking about. I've beaten the game now, but was hoping GB would have started putting a walkthrough up on their site. I suppose if they dont get one rolling soon, I'll add more to this one.

Well, I didn't need this particular walkthru, especially since it's an optional section of the game anyway. But I felt the need to comment on walkthrus in general:

There is a reason they are called spoilers. If you use them too much or too often, it takes the fun out of discovering things for yourself, and often locks you into the other player's patterns, which don't necessarily help your particular play style.

I greatly prefer the type of walkthrus that segment every possible section of the game they deal with, so you don't have to look at any part you don't want to look at. A wall-of-text, like the OP, kind of forces you to read the whole dang thing. If you only need help with one little item, you've spoiled the whole section for yourself in the process of reading something like that.

I like to used walkthrus for only two reasons: (1) if I am really truly stuck and am getting frustrated, and (2) to back check when I think I am "done" with an area so I don't miss something critical. But it's mostly the first. Once you start getting frustrated, there is no fun in it anymore. If you are careful and meticulous with saves, the second reason is not so important. It does, however, stink badly to find you needed to pick up some silly item in Act I to complete something in Act III. I did that in NWN 1 with my companion's quests - because I missed one simple thing, I could never do his quests, and I didn't want to start over. If I had checked the walkthru, I might have been able to correct it early and not been disappointed later.

M0rb1d, there is actually an Official Strategy Guide book available, authorised by Obsidian, put out by Bradygames. It contains a Walkthrough.

It also contains much more useful things, like details of races and classes, creatures, weapons, armour, crafting materials, etc.

I bought it, eventually, because I can't stand having to use the on-disc Manual - I like the easy reference facility of paper pages in front of me that I can flick over to check up in character creation.

So far, I have only used the walkthrough once, and that was before I understood how to point my char in the right direction by using the mini-map. Yeah, I'm a bit dumb!

So, I think you may be wasting your time doing a walkthrough to post in here. But all credit to you for your efforts - I know how time-consuming it is, having written Walkthroughs for my own pleasure in the past.

Just in case it isn't well known, we have our own walkthrough, which you can see here. It has everything up to Neverwinter currently, and it will have everything up to Old Owl Well soon enough.

I never actually got any further with writing this than what is posted. The more I thought about it, the less I wanted to mess with it.

I agree that a walkthrough is a major spoiler.

Yes, I am aware there is a strategy guide.

And lastely, you really should check out GB's walkthrough. It's easier to follow to a big "wall of text", and you can just hunt for that one section that is giving ya issues.

Actually there is a problem with the flow of the game but I am not sure if it will be fixed or how best to explain it.

The problem is with the flow of the game around Fort Locke.
I believe you lose 3 quests, 3 rewards of xp and loot, if you choose to go to the Swamp Cave (i.e. saving Galen once), take the help Galen encounter at the start of Fort Locke (saving Galen again) and do the Bandit Camp before saving the Commander you loose 3 quest.

If you choose to go directly to Fort Locke (skipping Swamp Cave and the Galen encounter at the start of Fort Locke) and the Bandit Camp, just get the Save the Commander quest go to the Graveyard save him and once he is back in command he gives you official quest for the Bandits (tested), Galen (not tested) and Swamp Cave boss (not tested)

I found this out by doing the Commander before doing the Bandit Camp once he was back he told me of a Bounty for the Bandits Quest which gives 250xp and 500 gp, iir.
While I haven't restarted again to test the Galen and Swamp Cave Boss I feel there is a very good chance tney are both there as well.

So if anyone and keep an eye out for the other two at there next playthru it would be helpful. :)

It just feels weird not going to the Swamp Cave as soon as it shows up and ignoring Galen at the start of Fort Locke till after you cave the Commander.

I think this is just another problem with the game being rushed out and not letting the orginal Game Designer finish the job as the game is very disjointed.

Don't actually see what this has to do in this thread, however .... you can "hand in" the bandit killing, even if the commander haven't given the quest to you. There is a dialog option for it.
So I expect it is the same for Galen and that you don't loose XP, and I normally always go the swamps before the fort.

Thanks, well it was talking about a walkthrough then GB's was suggested and mentioned
I thought I would add a comment, which could be a bug or oversight possibly effecting GB's walkthru.
Didn't seem to be OT, but your the boss.

Thank you. It's useful information to me, and it's something I'll check if I make another run through the game. But probably the best way to report mistakes and omissions in the walkthrough is to use the mailto links found on each page of the walkthrough.

Ok. :)
My concerns were either starting a new thread (usually frowned on if there are related threads in search functions), using the report in the walkthru (wasn't sure if it was a bug in the game) or posting in a seemly related thread (happy medium?).

I was like you as I wasn't sure I would be starting over again soon, so anyway I will try to be more careful. :)
