Do arrows go through water?

I am trying to defeat a water creature that I cannot handle with my longsword, it will kill me as I am lvl 1 with chirtin armour. So I'm left with my bow. Will this work?

O.o Define "water creature"? One of the fish, or something else?

Hmm. Those are more than a mite harder to kill than slaughterfish. :p I am assuming that you have a poor rank in marksmanship and it is not your preferred method of fighting because you are better in melee?

Actually I have a marksman of 50, being a wood elf. Using a chirtin bow, however.

I don't know the specifics, but, if you can use your sword underwater, the game engine should allow for you to shoot arrows into the water. I am assuming you are just running into a bad situation that you aren't handling properly. Arrows miss often if you don't have a good marksmanship skill has been my experience.

they sure do, even my character at level 70ish marksmanship is still quite inaccurate, i think it may be normal to be inaccurate even at level 100 so ya, you may as well test it out...although chitin wont do too much damage to them anyways

*nods* Indeed. It's why I tended to go for destruction spells if I wanted ranged attacks. I would suggest ignoring it for now or trying a new tactic like spells or maybe a hit and run tactic with your sword.

About the original question, IIRC arrows do go through water, as I have killed many slaughter fish with arrows :D

Besides what other have suggested here, you could also try to avoid fighting against that creature till you have bit more experience under your belt (I mean levels :p ).

What kind of arrows are you using?
I find that of the less expensive arrows silver tend to fly the straightest and do the most damage.
Your bow makes a difference too. Of the more affordable varieties, bonemold does a decent job.

And yes, arrows do shoot through water. It may be you need to level a bit though...

I've never been able to shoot an arrow through water or throw darts...my marksman is lvl 100.

but kipi and DW have? i must think you are mistaken as its easier to mistake a bunch of misses as thinking arrows dont go through water than killing slaughterfish with a bow...im sure dreugh lords cant be killed though since theyre almost always quite far inside the lake

My experiences mirrors this.
But it is a long time since I've played, and it might have been "skill" or equipment (using iron/steel arrows instead of higher quality) which affected me, although I had no problems making long shorts and aiming manually - but when I tried (back when I played) to do this to the slaughterfish, it looked at where I shot, the arrow was deflected by the water leading me to believe the option was removed. I did never managed to even kill a slaughterfish by shooting through the water.

Well, from my side it can always be that I had a mod that allowed me to shoot through the water, since last time I played the game I had huge ammount of mods installed...

I've mostly played the "vanilla" version, and only a little with expansions. Could be a mod?

Post your mods list.

That's quite hard since I don't have it anymore on my computer :o

But I'll search if I find the mod...

I believe I have the solution...

Folks,

Actually I do not believe it is a mod list, but, rather, a hemisphere issue. I'm a perpetual marksman to the point where I will almost never draw my blade, even up close. (Yes, I know this results in many issues of needless backpedaling while shooting, but that's just the way I roll! *lol*)

Anyway, I've noticed that when I am out of the water, I can't shoot things that are in the water. However, when I am submerged in the water, I can shoot and kill anything in the water with me. As such, my guess is that the folks who believe water deflects have been shooting from above it into it, whereas the folks who have had no problem have been shooting from inside the water at other things in the water.

Let me know if this is correct.

Thanks,

Blackjax

I was wondering if it was a mod, lol! :D

@BlackJax, I do believe you are right with that one, I haven't been playing MW recently, but I'm pretty sure I remember shooting arrows successfully while underwater.

Yes, the theory BlackJax offers can be the right one... at least the one closest to right... :)
