i never really got into D&D, none of my friends were big on it, so this may just be a really stupid question, in which case i apologise.

recently i started playing BG2, probably my fav RPG right behind fallout2 or morrowind, but anyways, so im a cavalier, just got level 12. for some reason I cant get more than 2 points in anything (and Id really like to get some more points in two handed swords for holy avenger :D ). is this just part of the classes unless i multiclass to a fighter or something? any help is appreciated, id just like to be able to figure this out. thanks

You have to be a single class fighter for that. Sorry. You have all these other cool advantages and there's the sword itself. So don't feel bad and work with what you have. Also you can't dual to a fighter.

The first six are fairly easy. two-handed weapons, two-handed sword and crossbow or bow. That's what I'd suggest. Then there some good anti-undead weapons in maces or axes that's easily attainable and some good anti dragon weapons in long swords or halberds. If you haven't got Carsomyr yet my suggestion would be halberds. And then axes or maces.

Of course all of this also depends who else is in your party.
